A rooftop fire broke out this morning on East 43rd Street, near Grand Central Terminal. Thick smoke filled the Midtown skyline as FDNY crews responded quickly to contain the blaze.
No reported injuries so far, streets nearby were temporarily closed for safety.

PAWe sat through a timeshare presentation to stay in Midtown NYC and yes it was worth it.🗽
Let’s talk about timeshare presentations because they get a bad rap but can actually be a legitimate budget travel hack if you know what you’re getting into.
We stayed at the New York Hilton Midtown for two nights. Prime location on Avenue of the Americas. Walking distance to Times Square, Rockefeller, Central Park, everything. The total cost? $228.36 plus Hilton gifted us 25,000 Hilton Honors points. For two nights in Midtown Manhattan. That’s a steal.
The catch is the timeshare presentation. Here’s what you need to know before you book one of these deals.
The Presentation Reality:
It lasted 90 minutes. On Saturday. Mid-day. Which was not ideal for planning our weekend. They do try hard to sell you. Like actually hard. High pressure tactics. Multiple pitches.
If you crack under sales pressure or have trouble saying no, this is not for you.
Seriously. You need to be comfortable saying no repeatedly and sticking to it.
But if you can handle it, the savings are real. The room was nice. The location was unbeatable. And we got to spend a weekend in NYC without destroying our budget.
Would We Do It Again?
Yes. But only because we can handle the pressure and aren’t bothered by saying no fifty times. If you’re someone who gets uncomfortable with sales tactics or feels guilty turning people down, skip this hack and just pay full price for the hotel.
But if you can sit through 90 minutes of high-pressure sales and walk away without signing anything, this is an incredible way to experience expensive cities on a budget.
