Pew Research published a study that compared Millennial Dads to previous generations. The study found that:
1. Millennial Dads spend 3x more time with their kids than the previous generations. That is 8 hours/week in 2016 vs. 2.5 hours/week in 1965 on average. That is still compared to 14 hours/week in 2016 for Moms!! There’s still more work to do here! ⏳
2. Only 3% of Dads admitted to never changing a diaper compared to 43% in 1982. We need to get that down to 0%!!! 🛁
3. Millennial Dads devote slightly more than 2x more time to household chores to lighten the household burden on moms. That is 10 hours/week in 2016 vs. 4 hours/week in 1965 on average. Compared to 18 hours/week in 2016 for Moms on average!! 🧹
4. 57% of Millennial Dads treat fatherhood as a central part of their identity compared to 58% for Moms!! That’s only a 1% difference. It starts with you believing fatherhood is a super important job and important to YOU!! 👨🏽💼
There is still more work to be done for Dads to close the gap so the burden of parenthood is equal but we are starting to break generational cycles 🔁
