WHHow to spend one ✨perfect✨ day in Mindo, Ecuador!

Wake up at @lasterrazasdedana and have the most amazing breakfast on your terrace. Get the tigrillo, which is a green plantain patty filled with egg and cheese with a fried egg on top and thank me later. 😋
Then walk down the road to the chair lift for incredible views of the Mindo Cloud Forest while heading up the mountain. Next you’ll want to take the trail from where the chair lift lets off to the tarabita, or cable car. If you take the cable car across the cloud forest, you can hike to some incredible waterfalls! 💦
After your hike, you’ll take the cable car back across and then the chair lift back down for more amazing views. 🙌
Next up, head to Punto Ornitologico Mindo to have the coolest experience feeing hummingbirds from right out of your hand! 🤯
Afterwards, walk into town to do a chocolate tour at Yumbos Chocolate. You’ll learn exactly how chocolate is made and will get to try lots of yummy samples! 🍫
Then walk or take a taxi to Mariposas de Mindo to experience the most incredible butterfly garden I’ve ever been to!
End your day back at @lasterrazasdedana to relax on your terrace!
I had the absolute BEST time in Mindo and can’t recommend visiting here enough!

Did you know that up in the cloud forest in Ecuador, you can experience pure joy and presence with these tiny little hummingbirds?
Here’s how you can do this too!
2 options:
1️⃣ Take a day tour from Quito to Mindo
To do this, book a tour with a local guide! We went with @toursbylocals as we wanted a private guide for our family, but you can find similar tours on @getyourguide as well

Make sure to block out a whole day as it’s about 2 hours from Quito, but well worth it.
You’ll also get to explore local waterfalls, wander the town, do a chocolate tour, visit butterfly and orchid gardens, and more.
2️⃣ Stay overnight in Mindo
We stayed here for a few nights the last time we went to Ecuador and it ended up being one of our favorite spots.
This way you don’t have to pack your one day full of every activity and can choose what to do and when (or even do the hummingbirds twice?!)
Highly recommend staying at @lacasadececiliamindo, right on the river. If you stay overnight, you can just have a taxi take you to the hummingbirds or hire them to drive you around for the whole day.

Mindo is a tranquil, yet dynamic destination with many things to do and enjoy. You’ll find this small village nestled in the Andean mountains only 2 hours north of Quito. Here you can explore Ecuador’s cloud forest and get a taste of the country’s wildlife.
☁️ What’s a Cloud Forest?
↳ This is tropical forest rich in biodiversity, just like a rainforest although it sits at a much higher altitude, therefore receiving much of its water directly from clouds.
🚌How to get there
↳ You can take a day tour here from Quito, but I recommend visiting for a few days and therefore going on your own. You can do this by taking a public bus from the La Ofelia Terminal in Quito or by renting a car.

↳ A great place to go on your own! It’s really safe, there’s lots to do and although it’s a slower destination than somewhere like Baños, it’s relatively easy to meet other travelers if you want to.
