LU1. Needlessly difficult work flow-
The FPS of even the best DSLR cameras do not compare to some of the current Sony mirrorless models that have come out in the past year. FPS arguably determines how fast transitions can be made from pose to pose and investing in something to optimize workflow is going to benefit you in the long run.
2. Poor AF tracking
I’ve noticed a lot of DSLR’s are not balanced when it comes to specs and AF tracking is no exception. In the example of the D500 it has very good AF tracking but it’s at the expense of good resolution and Megapixel quality in respect to its mirrorless counterparts.
3. Social Stigma
Mirrorless cameras, especially Sony, is what people recognize and expect at a professional level. It signals modern standards, serious investment, and competence before a single shot is taken. I don’t need validation. I need to use gear that matches the level I operate at.
4. Lack of quantity of quality
I love the color scheme of some of my photos I’ve taken but getting the perfect shot isn’t always guaranteed and easier to achieve. This is kind of relating to my first point about workflow but it still is valid. Clients must have 100% guarantees that my work will deliver with as little obstacles as possible.
5. Long lasting and hybrid shooter friendly
I have plans to enter into videography and film as well as continue with photography. And with the options for mirrorless cameras like the Sony A7IV or A7iii it’s a no brainer for the big upgrade. It’s not about consumerism anymore it’s leveling up to make myself more visible
Disclaimer: buying a Sony mirrorless or any mirrorless camera won’t make you a better photographer but it will open doors for you that a 15 year old DSLR won’t be able to. Make the decision that’s right for you within your journey as an artist.
