MAKE MOVEMENT A HABIT SERIES Day 16 (Reahaping how we think about movement) Let’s change how we think about movement. Movement is not punishment. It’s not something you have to earn because you ate too much… or because you skipped a workout yesterday. It is time that we think of Movement for what it really is, and that is SELF-CARE! Movement is caring for ourselves and for those around us. It’s how we take care of your bodies… it’s how we prevent illness or manage them better it’s how we release stress… it’s how we reconnect with ourselves. Some days, movement looks like a workout. It looks like exercise at the gym or at the pool Other days, it’s a slow walk…or a brisk one Sometimes just some stretching… Sometimes it’s simply choosing to move instead of staying still. And guess what? That still counts. You don’t always need to push harder. You don’t need to suffer. I actually have a few patients running in many of the latest craze of 5K’s who never ran before, and now are suffering from severe pains because of shin splints and hairline fractures. You just need to show up consistently… kindly. Because when movement feels good, you’re more likely to keep doing them. Don’t get me wrong, feeling the burn and being sore are ok and are acceptable. But not the pain or injury that results in hospitalization, that causes pain that is debilitating or that causes us to abandon or run away from movement. Movement Habits are built by being consistent. Habits are built when we are kind and respectful to our bodies. So today—especially if you are just starting....or if you have had negative exercise experiences before....move gently. Move kindly. Move consistently. Move for you. Movement isn’t just for your body — it’s powerful for your mental health too. When you move, your body releases feel-good chemicals and hormones that help boost your mood, improve focus, and reduce stress. Current research proves that intentional movement reduces the negative effects of stress, post traumatic syndrome, depression, anxiety, Alzheimer’s and even schizophrenia. Movement also shows healing of our body at a cellular level! So, a short walk, gentle stretching, a bike ride down the street, dancing in your room… it all counts. Even 10 minutes 3 times a day can help clear your mind and shift your energy. So if your thoughts feel heavy, try moving your body first. During our recent workshop in partnership with @mentalhealthpbc , we explored how movement directly impacts mental health. We watched a powerful video breaking down how exercise can: ✔️ Reduce stress ✔️ Improve mood ✔️ Increase focus ✔️ Boost overall emotional well-being Then we put it into action with seated exercises, proving that movement doesn’t have to be intense to be effective. Even small, intentional movements can make a big difference. To close, we asked our members: What was your favorite part of today’s exercise? The answers were a reminder that sometimes the best therapy is simply getting your body moving.
