CITA “Cada vez que interrumpís tu foco, le estás pidiendo al cerebro que pague una especie de impuesto invisible.” — Ignacio Cuaranta REFLEXIÓN Vivimos orgullosos de “hacer multitasking”, pero el cerebro no hace multitarea real: hace cambio rápido de foco. Cada vez que saltás de: mail → WhatsApp → Instagram → vuelta al Word → notificación → otra pestaña… el sistema ejecuta microcortes: apaga un contexto, prende otro, recalcula dónde estaba. Eso tiene un costo: más fatiga mental más errores tontos más sensación de dispersión y de “no terminé nada” menos probabilidad de entrar en Flow La investigación en atención muestra que, después de una interrupción, se pueden necesitar minutos para volver a la misma profundidad de foco de antes, incluso si la interrupción fue corta. Entender: No es solo “me distraje un segundo”… son microtraumas a tu continuidad atencional. ✅ PRÁCTICA DEL DÍA 1- Prohibir interrupciones voluntarias en un bloque Elegí un bloque de 25–30 minutos hoy para una sola tarea importante. Regla: durante ese bloque, no abrís ninguna app nueva ni pestaña extra. Si te acordás de algo, lo anotás en un papel y seguís. 2- Silenciar al ladrón principal Detectá: ¿cuál es tu interrupción N°1? (WhatsApp, Instagram, mail, noticias). Por un bloque, silenciala o cerrala completamente. No “la dejo ahí por si acaso”. Chequear cómo llegás al minuto 20 Al final del bloque, preguntate: “¿Cómo se siente mi mente después de 20–30 minutos sin tirones?” Clave: Registrar esa sensación crea memoria corporal de lo que es trabajar sin microtraumas. It’s not possible to have attention on 2 things at the same time. Each switch = Energy used That, is why multitasking is a waste of energy. Btw, this doesn’t apply to watching TV while doing laundry or a low level automatic task. This is for high level work so studying, your day job, writing, editing etc.

I’ve had to learn the hard way—multitasking and why it’s actually more of an illusion than a superpower. Like so many of us, I used to think multitasking was the only way to keep up with everything. I’d juggle answering emails, working on projects, and even planning my next Instagram post all at once. But here’s the reality: every time I tried to split my focus like that, I’d end up making mistakes, forgetting important details, and honestly, I wouldn’t retain much of what I was doing. I was “busy” but not productive. Research actually backs this up. When we multitask, our brains are constantly switching between tasks rather than handling them simultaneously. This “task-switching” leads to slower performance, more errors, and lower-quality results. Think of it like this: every time we switch from one thing to another, our brains need time to refocus, and that back-and-forth can cost us precious energy and attention. For me, shifting to single-tasking has been a game-changer. Now, I tackle one task at a time—whether that’s working on a client project, planning content, or even just answering messages. By giving each task my full attention, I’m able to finish it faster, retain more information, and I feel so much more accomplished at the end of the day. If you’re used to multitasking, try this: pick just one thing to work on for the next 20 minutes. Turn off other distractions, and give it your full focus.
