OLEver watched a nail “fix” that made the problem worse? Nail techs, this is one of those.
No nail plate. Just skin.
And they’re piling product on like it’s gonna build a miracle.
It looks “detailed,” but it’s really just:
• way too much product
• direct contact with skin
• 10 minutes of filing to clean up a mess
And the worst part?
Acrylic gel is water porous. So now it’s sitting on the skin, soft, and unsupported.
It’s literally waiting for lifting, or greenies, if the client isn’t lucky or doesn’t ever wash hands!
Here’s what I do instead:
• Fill a dual form with hard gel
• Press, cure, pop off
• Quick file and done
Hard gel doesn’t absorb water.
And with the dual form, it doesn’t even touch the skin.
Cleaner results. Faster service. Safer outcome.
That’s what clients care about- and that’s what I teach.

I’m not going to lie as nail techs, we don’t have all the answers. In school, we’re taught how to handle certain situations, but every once in a while something happens that truly makes you stop and question yourself.
When I saw this, my first thought was: What should I do?!
Honestly, I was stunned 😭 however I carefully removed what was already lifted, proceeded to advise her to see a doctor and that was it I was genuinely nervous to touch anything else.

TENail techs, don’t come for me 😅 but Russian manicures? Here’s why dermatologists are worried.
They remove both the cuticle and the eponychium—the protective skin that shields your nail matrix, where new nail cells are made. Once that barrier is gone, you’re at much higher risk for infection. It can lead to paronychia, a painful, swollen infection around the nail, and even long-term damage like ridges or pitting.
And it’s not just Russian manicures. Any time you cut or aggressively push back the cuticle, you’re risking the same problems.
You do not need to remove your cuticles for a clean, beautiful manicure. Keeping them intact is key to strong, healthy nails.
