IN“I AM THAT”, Indian mum in Australia 🇦🇺 who started NAPLAN practice in the December 2025 school holidays.
Yes… early.
There are sample papers from 2012–2016 available on the ACARA website.
We did one paper per week.
And honestly?
A lot changed.
Week 1 sounded like this:
“I don’t know this.”
“I won’t finish.”
“I’m hungry.”
“I’m tired.”
“I need toilet.” 😅
By Week 5:
“I can do this.”
“I still have time.”
So what changed?
Not intelligence.
Not the syllabus.
Confidence.
“I don’t know this” ➡️ “I can do this.”
“I won’t finish” ➡️ “I still have time.”
And beyond academics:
⏱️ She can now sit for 40–45 minutes without breaks.
🧠 Her focus has improved.

RAThe marking guidelines have always been free and available to download but most teachers and parents think it’s top secret information. This is a total myth!
The guidelines for narrative and persuasive are on the ACARA website and other state’s websites.

Here are some examples of precise words, straight from the rubric:
citizen, urge, budget, consider, solution, protect, supportive, research, duty of care, quick-minded person, a positive impact on society …

FUStop losing easy NAPLAN marks 👀 If your child is answering based on what they think instead of what the text actually says… that’s where the marks are going.
📚 NAPLAN Reading is not about opinions.
It’s about evidence.
Teach them this simple habit:
👉 Go back to the text.
👉 Find the proof.
👉 Then answer.
If they can’t underline the evidence… It’s probably not the right choice.
This one strategy alone can instantly improve reading scores.
For example, if the text says: “Liam hesitated before stepping onto the stage.”
Question: How does Liam feel?
Wrong answer: Liam did not want to go on stage.
Right answer: Liam was feeling nervous; he was hesitant to go on stage.
Save this for revision season ✍️✨
