It's silly expensive here. Everything costs so much more than we expected.
Perhaps part of it is that we have come from Peru and Ecuador, which are much cheaper, but.....
The tours are shockingly expensive - and they want cash mostly so that they can avoid paying the tax due. You can pay by card in a lot of places but many of them add upwards of 30% onto the bill if you're paying by card.
The salsa dance class for instance - as we said - is $53 per person for a 90 minute session.
So if ten of the tour group want to dance... Well ... You do the maths !!!
So if you're traveling to Costa Rica, bring lots and lots of dollars. We could easily spend $1,000 dollars here without even blinking.
Having said all of that - it's a beautiful place. So lush and green and full of wildlife.
