NEYesterday Newlab joined Brian Gibbs Development and Lincoln Avenue Communities at the former Naval Support Activity (NSA) complex to mark the official groundbreaking of Newlab New Orleans and the upcoming transformation of the complex. This multi-phase redevelopment is one of the most significant mixed-use investments in New Orleans in decades.
We were joined by Mayor @helenamorenola, our partners at @opportunity_la and @louisiana_io, @fuelouisiana, @lsu, and @shell, representatives from the @cityofnola, @gnoinc, @braf1964 and @gnofoundation, Councilmember @lesliharris, Councilmember @jpmorrell, and former Councilmember, now CAO Joe Giaurrusso.
“Today marks a defining moment in Newlab’s long-term commitment to anchor industrial innovation in the region,” said David Belt. “We see in New Orleans, and the State more broadly, both the capability and the momentum required to lead — making this region and the NSA site the perfect place to build a home for scaling critical technologies.”
In addition to Newlab New Orleans’ hub for critical technology, the project will lay the groundwork for a new campus that delivers affordable housing, innovation infrastructure, and long-term community and economic value for New Orleans.
