TADo you think the view worth queueing an hour for tickets?
This is Nikko Toshogu, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Japan. I went during long weekend and was greeted by the long queue at the entrance.
Here is what I did to skip queue and still get nice video footages:
1. Buy tickets online
There is a separate line for online ticket holders, and it is much shorter than buying on the spot. Online tickets can also be cheaper.
2. Avoid mainstream angles
Most people take photos from the same spots. Look for corners, turn around, and wait for backgrounds with fewer people.
3. Shoot from the side
People usually stand in the middle of gates or temples. Side angles are often less crowded and visually more interesting.
4. Zoom in on details
Look up and focus on architectural details. This helps avoid people appearing in your frame.

Their gyoza varieties, both boiled and fried, are absolutely delicious, and the ramen is also a must-try.✨ They offer both vegetarian and meat-based ramen options, along with vegan gyozas. The owners are super friendly and welcoming, making the experience even better. The menu is clear and available in English. Prices are incredibly reasonable, with ramen dishes ranging between 800 and 1200 yen (approximately 8 euros).
Pro Tip: They open at 12 PM, but arriving around 11:45 AM ensures you get a seat without waiting. The restaurant is small and can get busy, so there might be a wait during peak hours!

TOA noi capita spesso di andare a Nikko per i nostri tour, ma mai vista una situazione simile!
Il video risale all'8 Novembre 2025, un sabato. Contando anche che siamo nel periodo del foliage: ecco il risultato!
Il fenomeno dell’overtourism, gioca senz’altro un ruolo fondamentale dovuto al fatto che la maggior parte dei turisti si concentra sempre negli stessi punti.
Nel caso di Nikko, per esempio, basta allontanarsi poco più lontano del Toshogu per trovare punti meno affollati.
Per organizzare al meglio il vostro viaggio a Nikko, non vi sconsigliamo di non visitare il santuario, ma solo di essere consapevoli riguardo questo “fenomeno” e di agire di conseguenza. Lo stratagemma migliore sarebbe quello di visitarlo nella prima mattinata evitando il fine settimana.
Ricordiamo inoltre che Nikko non è solo il Toshogu ma anzi, già solo lì nei dintorni ci sono altri santuari e templi mozzafiato!

The "Kenkatsura" is one of the highlights of the Shinkashi Trail through Nikko National Park.
With a height of 45 meters and a trunk circumference of nearly 10 meters, this Katsura is estimated to be 370 years old 👀
Legend has it that a long time ago, a demonic god appeared and tormented people on the road, and Sadanobu Matsudaira, the lord of the castle at the time, sealed the demon in this Katsura with a sword. It is also popular as a power spot because of its sword-like strong and impressive appearance📷
On the way to Kenkatsura, you will be surrounded by a fresh and quiet atmosphere of greenery, as the murmuring of the river and chirping of birds fills the air.
