House Majority Whip @dayhochmanvigil shares an update on our public safety priorities this session. Key legislation the House has passed this session includes: ✅️ A state budget that includes funding for law enforcement, juvenile justice programs, and drug courts ✅️ Increased penalties for felons in possession of a firearm ✅️ Increased penalties for violence against law enforcement officers ✅️ Expanded access to assistance and services for victims of crime ✅️ Greater access to behavioral health services for individuals who are at risk of harming themselves or others (sent to the Governor today) ✅️ Preventing NM from contracting with ICE to detain individuals for civil immigration violations and prohibiting ICE from deputizing local law enforcement The clock doesn't stop til Noon on Thursday! This includes the Torrance County Detention Facility, which is owned by the for-profit company Core Civic. Innovation Law Lab has been working tirelessly to get the TCDF shut down. and to draw attention to the human suffering that takes place inside its doors.
