As a Performance Physician, here are some green flags I look for: ✅ You can sit on the floor and get up without using your hands (Indicates hip mobility, leg strength, and core control) ✅ You rarely get “hangry” (Suggests better metabolic flexibility - your body can shift fuel sources without crashing) ✅ You wake up just before your alarm (A sign your circadian rhythm is well regulated) ✅ You can stand on one leg, eyes closed, for >10 seconds (Your balance, proprioception, and brain–body coordination are sharp) ✅ You sneeze or cough without bracing your back (Suggests intact automatic core reflexes and spinal stability) ✅ Your resting heart rate drops during sleep (Your nervous system can downshift into recovery mode) ✅ You can look over your shoulder without turning your torso (Healthy cervical spine mobility - not rigidity) ✅ You recover from a typical workout within ~24 hours (Efficient inflammatory and recovery response) ✅ Your grip strength is strong (One of the strongest physical predictors of overall health and longevity) ✅ You have steady energy at 3 PM without caffeine (Stable energy metabolism and recovery capacity) Health isn’t just what your labs say. So they replay it, obsess over it, beat themselves up… thinking that punishing themselves will finally make them feel better. It never does. 2️⃣ The Identity Born From “I’m Not Good Enough” They pushed, strived, achieved, made more money, built success… But it was all built on top of a wound. They constructed a life that constantly requires massive energy just to avoid feeling the original belief: I’m not good enough. This type of burn-out can lead to depressive feelings. 3️⃣ The Inner Boy Who Is Still Hiding And Hurt Time does not heal what is avoided. Men who are depressed have a wounded inner boy who has been waiting inside of them for years to hear: “It’s not your fault.” “I’m right here. “Everything is going to be okay.” Until that part of him is loved back into the whole of who he is, the depression stays. Most men DON’T need more motivation. They don’t need another coach online telling them to think positive, go outside more, or just *decide* to feel better. They need resolution. Often times, people who are depressed are the most stubborn. It’s like they keep trying to walk down a path that they have poured their energy into… refusing to see that it leads to a dead end. (They are also often the most caring, heart centered people as well who have a tendency to put others first at the expense of themselves). The refusal of this truth is what keeps them stuck in a cycle of depression. Resolution comes from shadow work. Shadow work is the behind the scenes look at what your subconscious is doing to keep you “safe” that is in direct opposition to what you actually want. But chronic, unexamined anxiety often reveals misplaced security. 4️⃣ You only trust Him when it makes sense. If your faith requires full explanation before surrender, that’s logic - not trust. 5️⃣ You seek confirmation more than you seek God. You ask for signs. You ask for clarity. But you rarely ask, “Lord, what are You forming in me through this?” The question isn’t “Do you believe in God?” It’s: Does your behavior prove you trust Him? If this hit, don’t scroll. I used to be really bad for this in premed — I wouldn’t go to bed until everything was done and perfect. I’d leave things to the last minute, obsess over every detail, and convince myself sleep was something I had to earn. Most nights I’d fall asleep around 5 a.m. and wake up at 1, and it showed — in my skin, my face, my energy, my happiness. I told myself I wouldn’t let that happen in med school. And most of the time I don’t. But sometimes it still happens. You have more to do than you expected, you didn’t get the sleep you planned the night before, you realize you’re less prepared than you thought, or the material is harder than you imagined. And suddenly you’re back in that space … exhausted, wired, and negotiating with yourself about whether you’re allowed to rest. Sleep isn’t supposed to be something you earn, but when you care this much, it can start to feel that way. It’s normal, just don’t stay there too long 🫶🫶 #study #studymotivation #premed #tired
