I built a touchscreen escape room lockbox for under $30 using the infamous Cheap Yellow Display (CYD). This quirky little ESP32 board isn’t well documented and comes with plenty of flaws… but it’s cheap, flexible, and perfect for DIY puzzle projects. In this build, I turned the touchscreen into a keypad that controls a solenoid lock, added sound feedback, and even built a web interface for remote control and logging. A huge thank you to #PiSugar for sending me the new #WhisplayHAT and the #PiSugar3 battery pack for this project. The Whisplay-AI-Chatbot running on my #RaspberryPi Zero 2 W is an incredible #opensource idea that transforms a compact setup into a fully portable #AIassistant. I’ve been experimenting with different LLMsand decided to run this one on #Google ’s #Gemini, which I’ve found to be more efficient than #OpenAI for API handling. The combination of the Whisplay HAT’s integrated microphone, speaker, and display with the PiSugar 3 power solution makes it a perfect setup for AI on the go.
