Pacing is often recommended to people with chronic conditions as a way to "manage" their energy levels. *Pacing is where you monitor your physical activity levels and only do things for a certain amount of time or a certain number of activities per day, based on the idea that you will "use up" all your energy if you do more than the alloted time/distance and this will result in symptoms. Some pacing programs have strict limits, such as not going over a certain number of steps per day or not doing an activity for longer than a set amount of minutes. Don't get me wrong, stopping the "push crash cycle" (pushing yourself to exhaustion and then not being able to do anything and then repeating again) is important in recovery and being able to stabilise and find a "baseline" to build from can be helpful in the initial stages of recovery. However, at a certain point, pacing can actually hinder your progress as it can cause fear of activity. If you have been told/have told yourself that you can only do 3000 steps and then you get symptoms- that is what you will experience. The brain has "predictive coding" (or conditioning) where if it expects a certain outcome, it will generate that. The concept of pacing feeds into the fear of over-doing it (a very real and understandable fear when people have experienced pushing themselves and it ending in a flare-up / crash). But this trains the brain to fear activity and view it as dangerous. Therefore, when you do an activity that you feel is "outside of your pacing baseline", your survival brain will fire off danger alarm signals for the perceived threat of over-exertion, triggering the nervous system to produce symptoms (this all happens subconsciously without your awarness of course). So what to do instead? I tell my clients to pace their nervous system, NOT their physical activity. When we have an understanding of the nervous system and awareness of what state we are in, we can tune into when to "go" and when to "slow" and what actions to take in different situations- not based on how much activity we have done, but instead on how safe our nervous system feels. What are your thoughts on pacing? 👇

Your brain says “aww” before it says “wait.” Coz this video is AI-generated. And that’s exactly why it feels so perfectly wholesome. AI models are now incredibly good at recreating micro-expressions, sound timing, and emotional pacing. They understand what triggers a positive reaction online. In real life, loud barking next to a baby could be overwhelming. A startled dog could react unpredictably. Babies and animals are both sensitive to noise and stress. That’s one way to spot AI. The movements are slightly too smooth. The reactions are timed almost cinematically. There’s no background randomness. Everything feels… optimized. Perfection is often the giveaway. PACING A MARATHON 🎬 KM 1-10 PATIENCE - Pacing strategy: ease into the race, either settle straight into your marathon target pace or go slightly slower than target pace. - How it should feel: effortless, like you’re on a warm up. - Common mistakes: going too fast due to adrenaline and trying to bank time. 🏃🏽 KM 11-20 RHYTHM - Pacing strategy: run at your goal marathon pace - How it should feel: you should still feel comfortable and relaxed. Finding that “flow state”. If you’re already grinding here, PULL BACK. - Common mistake: pushing too early here because it feels too easy 🔥 KM 21-30 FOCUS - Pacing strategy: run at your goal marathon pace. It will make you work for it now. - How it should feel: you should start to feel a bit uncomfortable but you shouldn’t be blowing yet. Try and focus on keeping the body relaxed and stay on top of your fuelling. 🥵 KM 31-40 GRIND - Pacing strategy: if you have anything left here, you can start gently picking up the pace. If you’re on the limit, hold on! - How it should feel: this part is gonna hurt big time. This is what you’ve trained for. Focus on one step at a time. 🚀 KM 40-42.2 ALL OUT - Pacing strategy: there isn’t one, just attack. Give it everything. - How it should feel: this is going to hurt like hell. 10/10 pain. Your body is screaming at you to stop with every step but you have to keep on digging.

Follow for more @yellwidit When bestie sends you 20 reels in a row so now you're reacting to them like grading their work: At some point it stops being fun and starts feeling like unpaid overtime. Now I’m analyzing transitions, pacing, and emotional impact like this determines their final grade. The video is from a viral meme-style chimpanzee clip (Year unknown), commonly circulated across Instagram and TikTok as a reaction format. In this scene, a chimpanzee dressed in a floral pink dress, blonde wig, and oversized glasses sits at a table intensely writing on a thick stack of papers with a calculator nearby, while dramatic, fast-paced orchestral music plays in the background. The exaggerated “serious professional” setup turns something simple—reacting to reels—into a high-pressure academic task. The focused writing and urgent energy perfectly mirror that dramatic shift from casually watching content to critically evaluating every single one like it’s a final exam.

The heavier runners will know what I’m talking about!! Everyone will mention nutrition, hydration, pacing, etc etc for a solid run. But if you’re a heavier runner, and you’ve got a decent size to your quads, hammys and adductors? Vaseline is high up on the list for things you need for your runs. Nothing worse than chafing after 2/3k in, especially on a race day or a faster paced session. (Just maybe don’t put it on as vigorously as this) 🙃🤣

I can’t stand when people say, “We’ll cross that bridge when we get there.” Please. I’m an overthinker — I’ve BEEN at the bridge. Pacing. Analyzing. Checking for cracks in the cement. Developing five backup plans, two escape routes, and a mental survival kit made out of pure anxiety and imagination. I’ve already Googled bridge collapse statistics at 2am. I’ve prepared for scenarios that don’t even exist. So no… we’re not “crossing it later.” We’re crossing it now — with charts, diagrams, emotional support snacks, and a full strategy. 😭✨ Follow @growfemalemotivation for daily woman empowerment and motivational content. @growfemalemotivation @growfemalemotivation @growfemalemotivation #girlpower #womenempowerment #selflove #motivation #confidence

Are you pacing easy runs properly? ↓ These ranges are estimates based on what easy running should feel like at different fitness levels. There's multiple charts out there, like VDOT, but I prefer advising people a bit slower for easy runs to truly keep them easy. However, here’s what charts can’t account for: - Speed-dominant runners (much better at short races) will need to stay on the slower end of these ranges, or even slower. - Endurance-dominant runners (relatively stronger at longer races) may handle the faster end more comfortably. New runners should start conservative regardless of their 5k time: your body is still adapting to the demands of running and your easy pace will improve quickly, so give it time. And your easy pace will fluctuate significantly day to day based on sleep, stress, heat, and fatigue (a pace that feels easy on Monday might feel hard on Thursday). That’s normal and not a sign something is wrong. And it’s actually the problem with any pace chart: it can’t account for who you are, what your training history looks like, or how you feel today, so use this as a starting point, not a rule. It’s the exact reason why I don’t like answerring the question “what should my easy run pace be”, cause it’ll always be an estimation. Still, an estimation can be helpful if you have no idea, so here it is. To pace easy runs properly, get comfortable with RPE: easy runs should feel like a 4-5 out of 10 (or lower as you get better). Best case, get a proper lactate or field test to calculate your actual zones rather than relying on estimates. And please, don’t ego run these sessions because the pace looks slow on Strava. Easy runs are supposed to look slow, that’s how you build the aerobic base that actually makes you faster. What’s your current 5k PR and easy pace?
