Many people struggle with recovery after knee replacement. But after seeing thousands of patients go through it, I’ve noticed that the ones who walk in smiling at follow-up usually share a few things in common: 1️⃣ They wait until the time is right. They have true bone-on-bone arthritis that’s limiting their life. They don’t rush into surgery just to “get it done.” They do it when pain and stiffness are truly keeping them from the things they love. 2️⃣ They have realistic expectations. They know it’s metal on plastic, not the knee they were born with. They know it won’t feel perfect…but it will give them their life back. 3️⃣ They go in with an optimistic mindset. They know they’ll do great, they trust their surgeon, and they focus on progress. They already visualize themselves doing well before the surgery even happens. That positive outlook makes an enormous difference in how they recover. 4️⃣ They surround themselves with support. They don’t try to do it alone. They lean on friends and family, they stay connected, and they keep positive voices around them to keep them strong even when the going gets tough. 5️⃣ They invest in themselves before surgery. They eat well, move their body, get enough sleep, and care for their mental health. They understand surgery is just one part of a bigger process of caring for themselves. 6️⃣ They don’t compare themselves to anyone else. They know recovery isn’t a race. They focus on their own progress, their own timeline, and they celebrate every small win along the way. These are the core traits that unify the patients who recover beautifully…not by luck, but by intention. #kneereplacement #kneereplacementrecovery #kneereplacementsurgery #kneearthritis #kneesurgery #jointreplacement

It’s been just over a year since I had my right knee replaced, so I wanted to give you all a little update. This is something I work on every single day. It doesn’t matter how often you go to physical therapy—what really makes the difference is what you do at home, in your downtime, and during those moments when nobody’s watching. That’s what gets the knee back in shape. I’m really happy with my progress: full extension in both knees, solid range of motion, and I can basically sit in a squat again. That has me fired up to try surfing again, and I’m planning on snowboarding and skiing this winter. Check out these exercises—I hope they help you get back to where you need to be. And remember: a replacement knee will never be as perfect as the original God-given one. It’ll be better than the injured knee, but it won’t ever be 100%. At this stage of my life, I’m loving my knees at 90%… and that’s good enough for me. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! 🎄🤙🎿🏄‍♂️⛷️. @coachrobbbeams @badboyclubxrj

“Had knee replacement? Avoid these 5 mistakes that can slow your recovery or cause serious complications. Save this for someone who needs it! 🦵✅ 🦵 5 Biggest Mistakes to Avoid After Knee Replacement 1. Skipping Physical Therapy Many people feel better after a few weeks and stop PT early. This is one of the worst things you can do. Physical therapy rebuilds the muscles around your new joint, restores range of motion, and teaches your body how to move correctly. Skipping it leads to stiffness, weakness, and a much slower recovery. 2. Doing Too Much Too Soon It feels like progress to push hard early — but overdoing activity before your knee heals causes swelling, pain, and can even loosen the implant. Follow your surgeon’s timeline strictly, especially in the first 6 weeks. 3. Neglecting Blood Clot Prevention After knee surgery, blood clots (DVT) are a serious risk. Mistakes include not taking prescribed blood thinners, sitting still for too long, or skipping leg exercises. Keep moving gently, stay hydrated, and follow your doctor’s clot prevention plan. 4. Ignoring Pain & Swelling Signals Some discomfort is normal, but sharp pain, unusual swelling, redness, or warmth are red flags. Many patients brush these off or wait too long to call their doctor. Always report anything that feels “off” — early intervention saves your recovery. 5. Bad Sleep Position & Poor Home Setup Sleeping with a pillow under your knee feels comfortable but keeps it bent and causes contracture (stiffness). Also, not preparing your home — no grab bars, loose rugs, low furniture — leads to dangerous falls. Set up your recovery space BEFORE surgery. #KneeReplacement #KneeRecovery #JointReplacement #RecoveryTips #Orthopedics HealthTips

➡️6 month update on my partial knee replacement⬅️ I’ve come a long ways. Hard to believe a could barely walk up and down the stairs a few months ago. I don’t miss those days, nor do I miss not being able to walk after sitting or sleeping for long periods. I’m thankful for every milestone. I recently started yoga, which has been extremely humbling in flexibility, mobility and weight/pressure on my knee. But I’m thrilled that I can sit cross legged and not hurt🤣 Consistency is hard. But being hurt is harder. It takes patience and grace. Thanks for following along my recovery journey🙏 #nikkisnewknee #partialkneereplacement #kneerehab #keepgoing #fitat50

After thousands of hip and knee replacements, I’ve learned there are five harsh truths that people have a hard time hearing…but they’re critical if you want an amazing result. These might sting a little. But I promise, they come from a place of wanting you to succeed. 1️⃣ Losing weight before surgery is all about your diet. Yes, it’s hard when your body hurts and you can’t be active. But the truth is, weight loss is almost entirely about nutrition. Even if you can barely walk, you can still control what you eat. 2️⃣ Movement is medicine. So many people believe their arthritis came from being too active. But the reality is, most people who develop arthritis get it from not moving enough. Our joints and cartilage stay healthy through load and circulation. If you want to feel better (before and after surgery), you’ve got to move every day. 3️⃣ Surgery is just one hour in a journey of thousands. That single hour in the OR is only the start of your recovery…what happens in the months that follow HUGELY determines your outcome. Your surgeon can replace your joint, but only you can rebuild your body through exercise, mindset, sleep, nutrition, and positivity. Those things make or break recovery just as much as the scalpel. 4️⃣ You control more of your outcome than you realize. The people who recover the best believe they’re in charge of their results and create a reality that guarantees success. They don’t blame circumstances. They focus on what they can control: their attitude, their effort, and their environment. That internal locus of control is one of the strongest predictors of success in surgery, and life. 5️⃣ Stop comparing yourself to others. This one’s big. Comparison steals joy and blinds you to your progress. Be proud of yourself for every step forward, no matter how small! If you take these truths to heart (and act on them), your recovery will transform your life in ways you never imagined!

A partial knee replacement can mean a shorter recovery, a more natural-feeling knee, and getting back to an active lifestyle faster than with a total knee. But not everyone is a candidate. In this video, I’ll walk you through exactly what I look for: from where your arthritis is, to how your knee moves, to a few bonus factors that can make a partial knee an even better choice. #kneereplacement #partialkneereplacement #kneesurgery #kneereplacementrecovery #jointreplacement

So many people think surgery is the ‘fix,’ but the truth is that what you do before and after the procedure matters just as much as what happens in the operating room. 🦴 Prehab (strengthening, mobility work, reducing inflammation) prepares your joints, muscles, and nervous system for what’s coming. 🦴 Rehab (consistency with exercises, follow-up appointments, respecting weight-bearing limits) determines how well you actually heal. 🦴 Lifestyle choices—sleep, nutrition, movement—are the foundations your body builds recovery on. Your surgeon isn’t warning you to scare you… they’re telling you because they know healing isn’t passive. You’re the main character in your recovery. Listen closely, ask questions, follow the plan, do the work—and your future self will thank you. ✅Follow @drdavidabbasi for More Daily Medical Content & Health Tips! 🌴😷Schedule a consultation to see Dr. Abbasi as a patient in Delray Beach! Barry had his knee bent all the way back not only right after his NanoKnee surgery but also 21 hours later. We spoke to Barry at his follow-up appointment and he said he already has more range of motion than his friend who had a traditional knee replacement two months ago. Another NanoKnee miracle in the books! 🙌
