Not every child your child spends time with is a true friend. Friendship should feel safe, respectful, and honest. If a peer is asking your child to lie, hide things, break rules, or go against family values, that is not friendship. That is pressure. If your child feels they have to be “cool” by hurting others, calling names, or doing things they’re uncomfortable with, that is not belonging. That is influence without care. And if a child is made to feel less because of clothes, brands, or status, that is not friendship. That is comparison and insecurity. Children need to learn early that: * You don’t hide things from safe adults * You don’t change your values to fit in * You don’t need to prove your worth to belong Because the right friendships will never ask a child to become someone they are not. Have this conversation with your child. It can shape the kind of relationships they choose for life. Did you know *YOU* are your child’s first friendship example? “Be a good friend” hits different when they see you do it. You can’t lecture them about loyalty if they don’t see you practice it. And you definitely can’t teach inclusion if they don’t see you live it. As a millennial mom who has been mildly traumatized by 3-way calling, bullies at summer camp, and questionable friends....these are 3 non-negotiable habits to practice with your mom besties to ensure you’re raising good humans who know what it means to be a friend 🫶🏻 1. Let them see real adult friendship Yes, everyone is crazy busy and literally doesn’t even have time for themselves, but I still make sure: They see us text encouragement. They see us show up when it’s inconvenient. They see us messy, tired, and still offering to help the other when needed. 2. We don’t rush in to fix every conflict When they argue, we don’t immediately referee. “Try saying that again please, and maybe a little nicer.” “What exactly did you mean by that?” “How can you repair it?” We’re teaching them that conflict isn’t scary, it’s a skill and that resolution will build their confidence. 3. We don’t ever speak negatively about our kids in front of them, and we make sure they constantly hear us say good things about their character. We’re careful about the jokes we make. While yes, we have “wild ones” we also make sure they know how special those qualities make them. What they hear us say about them becomes the voice they hear inside their own head. 👯‍♀️Tag the mom besties who help you model good friendships!

💜💕We teach our children math, science, and manners… but one life skill many parents forget is how to recognize the right friends. Friends have a powerful influence on a child’s behavior, confidence, and decisions. Teach your child to notice the difference between controlling, mean, or risky friends and those who truly respect and support them. When children learn to choose healthy friendships, they grow into confident and emotionally safe individuals. Because the right friends don’t just make childhood happier… they shape the direction of a child’s life. “Before your child chooses friends… teach them to recognize these 5 types of friends.” Because not every friend is a good influence. 3️⃣ Mean Friend A friend who: • Makes fun of you • Teases or embarrasses you • Says hurtful things Teach your child to say: “I don’t like when you talk to me like that.” Lesson: Friends should never make you feel small. 4️⃣ Risky-Behavior Friend A friend who says: “Don’t tell anyone.” “Let’s break the rules.” “Try this, it’s fun.” Teach your child: “If something feels wrong, walk away and tell a trusted adult.” Lesson: Good friends never push you into trouble. 5️⃣ “Secret-Keeping” Friend A friend who says: “This is our secret, don’t tell your parents.” Teach your child: “You can always tell your parents anything.” Important rule for kids: “Safe friends don’t ask you to keep secrets from your parents.” #parentingtips #raisingconfidentkids #gentleparenting #mombloggerindia #parentingadvice (teaching kids about friendships, how kids choose good friends, parenting tips for friendships, social skills for children, teaching kids boundaries, raising emotionally strong kids, child safety lessons, parenting advice for moms)

Friendship bumps are a normal part of growing up — and how tweens respond can really make a difference. If we gently encourage calm, open conversations, they'll feel comfortable sharing feelings, listening with kindness, and resolving disagreements before they escalate. These habits help build emotional self-regulation, boost emotional smarts, and lead to healthier friendships. When tweens stay calm and clear, they feel more confident handling conflicts with respect and self-control. #EmotionalIntelligence #EmotionalRegulation #SocialEmotionalLearning #SEL #FriendshipSkills #ParentingTweens #LifeSkillsForKids #JoyCircles #JoyCirclesGang #Parenting
