Is this library best practices? No. But is it library best practices to teach 24+ classes a week and manage an entire library by yourself?? Also no! Do what you need to do to get it done. I highly recommend purchasing already covered books from PermaBound or Follett. Not sure if you can pay extra for Scholastic to cover them but it’s worth looking into. If you spend ages covering books and are happy to, go for it! If you are short on time and you take the dust jacket off, go for that, too. If you have a volunteer do it, good for you. You do you 👏👏👏 I do cover books if they have a different cover underneath. And yes, you can save the covers for bookmarks or displays, or you can recycle them 😉 Now if I only I could find away to avoid reprinting spine labels…

Some rabbit holes are so fun to fall into. Tonite on my walk, I noticed the books inside the little Library had been rearranged. So I peeked inside. And I saw a new book I didn’t recognize. A Hardback no less! So of course I had to feel it! And I immediately recognized it as a Library book! It’s #PERMABOUND 🤪 Sure enough, when I opened it up, I saw kids names inside. As well as the school the book originally belonged to. #CanyonCrestAcademy here in SanDiego. Being unfamiliar with the author was upsetting to me since it said he won a William Faulkner Award and was a recipient of the Rosenthal Award of the National Institute of Arts and Letters. How don’t I know this book? Or the Author? Well! It was written in 1959. Furthermore, it’s been somewhat banned. So of course now I’m going to sit here and read it. 😊 I’m most excited to know there’s a MOVIE I can locate after I read the book, as well as a sequel! I caAmi Cwalina SchroderDebra Capponiish the book. Should I add my name in the front before I put it back for the next person to enjoy? Whats the etiquette? Any other reading/book nerds out there?

I got so many messages asking about how I get new books ready for the shelves! Could I simply unpack the books and set them free? Absolutely. Is that what I do? Not even close 😅 I try to only order hard cover books in hopes of having them last longer. I take it an extra step and add corner protectors to all four corners of every book. Then each gets genrefied in the system with the coordinating sticker added to the spine. Then they're ready to be checked out! The corner protectors aren't necessary but I find them to make a difference so its worth the extra step. . . . #librarybooks #libraryspace #bookorder #permaboundbooks #permabound
