Here are 3 essential spelling rules every child must know:
• Floss Rule – After a short vowel, we double f, l, s, z
(ball, miss, buzz)
• -tch / ch Rule –
After a short vowel, use tch (catch, match)
After a consonant or vowel team, use ch (lunch, beach)
• -dge / ge Rule –
After a short vowel, use dge (badge, edge)
After a consonant or long vowel, use ge (huge, range)
When children understand patterns like these, spelling becomes logical — not something to memorise blindly.
