ROPOOL UPDATE!! Rondog (with a little help from his bro) has been busy rendering the pool. Fun fact, Rondog is actually a plasterer by trade, so he’s in his element smoothing out every lump and bump to get it ready for waterproofing and tiles.
Apparently you can’t just slap tiles straight onto rough concrete. Who knew 🙃 The render creates a nice even surface so the waterproofing actually sticks and keeps the water in the pool.
Next up, waterproofing, tiling and then swimming just in time for Summer!

AMPlasterers not wearing goggles is one of the great mysteries of the building trade, right up there with “where have all my socks gone?” and “who’s been washing out my bucket with cement?”
Truth is, plastering is basically a blizzard of dust, lime, grit, and tiny airborne regrets… and yet most plasterers are out here raw-dogging it with nothing but squinty eyes and blind optimism.
Part of it is tradition. Plasterers have this ancient belief that PPE is something you buy, admire for five minutes, then leave in the van forever like a museum exhibit.
Another part is comfort. Goggles steam up instantly, so within 30 seconds you’re basically skimming a wall while looking through two fogged-up fish tanks. At that point you’re not plastering, you’re doing interpretive rendering.
And then there’s the ego factor. A plasterer will happily balance on a plank, holding a hawk full of muck, while dust hits them directly in the eyeballs, because admitting you need goggles feels, in trade logic, like admitting defeat.
It’s always:
“Goggles? Nah mate, I’ve got eyelashes.”
As if eyelashes are some kind of industrial filtration system.
But the real reason is simple: plasterers are too busy chasing the perfect finish to notice they’re slowly turning their eyes into sandpaper.
A plasterer will protect a wall like it’s the Sistine Chapel, but protect their own eyesight?
“No thanks, I’ll just blink aggressively.”
That’s the trade for you. Tough as nails, allergic to safety, and somehow still producing walls smoother than a politician’s apology. #plastering #builder #construction #plasterer #lgbtq

THIf you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know
that I’m a DIY home renovator - not a plasterer and I’m always looking for the easiest, budget-friendly way to fix things properly myself.
Everyone told me to “just get a plasterer” to fix my ceiling cracks for good but I decided to do it anyway 😅
These are the 3 key steps I used to fix and skim my cracked ceiling for good:
1️⃣ Secure & prep the ceiling
I screwed the plasterboards back to the joists, opened up the cracks, and sealed everything @sika_everbuild SBR so nothing would fail later.
2️⃣ Tape & pre-fill the cracks
I used mesh tape over the cracks, then pressed in Easifill60 to pre-fill the deep areas and leave it to fully dry.
3️⃣ Beginner-friendly skim
I rolled on @Dalapro Roll Nova and smoothed it with a lond flexi trowel/skimming blade - super forgiving, slow drying, and perfect if you’re not a pro.
