Also share with anyone heading to Perth, there are so many amazing places to explore close by!
We had the pleasure of being in Perth for over a month so we did these day trips to explore a little further.
1. Rottnest Island: (30 minute ferry ride) @rottnestislandwa
We got the bus around which meant we could see a lot more for a day trip. Take your snorkel gear, all the quokkas are in the township and cafes, go spot the seals. Get the first ferry there and last ferry back to make the most of the day.
2. Penguin island: (51 minutes) is a marine park and is a sanctuary for little penguins. The walking tracks and buildings over here were so lovely. You can get a ferry across or if you have a boat you can get across easily. There are seals on this island, a lot of bird life and of course penguins.
3. Mandurah (55 minutes) is an amazing place to visit. We found 2/6 of the giants which is a fun activity for the family. Needing to find the clues and walk to each sculpture. Also beautiful beaches and I think there may be regular dolphins at the jetty.
4. York (1 hour 25) is the oldest town in WA. It has beautiful old buildings, surrounded by wheat fields and a river. Great playground and an amazing freedom camping spot on the river. It also has little fairy houses to find in and around the town for the kids.
5. Dwellingup (1 hour 22) was such a cute little town surrounded by beautiful trees and bush. The cafes were delicious and the rivers were amazing to swim in. Apparently this is also the place to go mountain biking.
6. The pinnacles desert (2 hours 4 minutes) is a national park full of limestone structures. You can drive through the desert and pull over and look at the formations. You can also choose to walk. It’s definitely worth the visit!

SHWhat to do in Perth besides the shops and stuck in traffic.
We love the beach and outdoors..
Bush camp. Ocean crashing. Fishing line in the water. Slow mornings.
But every now and then… the city hits different.
After wandering through Perth CBD, we headed up to Kings Park, where skyline meets nature in the best way. The views over the river and city are unreal. Wide open space for the kids to run, the State War Memorial standing strong, and a café waiting at the end of the walk.
Free entry. Heaps of parking.
Nature and city in one spot.
Perth does it well.
Make sure you add this to your to do list.

SIYanchep Lagoon Perth - so many beaches to go in Perth, definitely a paradise for Summer lovers. Crystal clear water, cloudless blue sky, it is so peaceful and blessing to spend a day here.

GAFrom stunning Esperance, we travelled to Perth via Wave Rock (an amazing sight!)
Ed Sheeran was as brilliant as expected, especially with our fave Vance Joy performing as well 🤩
We spent a couple of hours at the Botanic Gardens in Perth, and we will definitely come back in spring to see more flowers in bloom (and also travel more of the wildflower way).
We stayed at Karrinyup Waters Resort to have a break from camping on dirt or sand, and then headed south to Bunbury and Busselton.
The Dolphin Discovery Centre was pretty cool and we even saw a dolphin out in the water!
Busselton was just a lunch stop, but we stayed here on our way back up from Margaret River. It deserves its own special post.
