TOSound designing a keyboard ad🔊 Process below👇
I recreated the sound design for this Kick75 ad from scratch - foley, music, and final mix. Here's the breakdown:
1. Started by syncing a few musical notes to key motion moments in the video. Built out the rest using synthesisers, then reversed some notes to create musical build-ups between transitions.
2. For the attachment sounds, I recorded clicks from random houshold items and synced them to each piece flying onto the keyboard. Layered multiple takes and added reverb to keep them subtle and blended.
3. Threw around some lego figures and kinder toys (as one does) to create the sound of keys falling onto the keyboard. Sometimes the best foley comes from whatever's lying around:)

❓How do I get started in film sound?
You’ll need 3 things: a computer, headphones, and a DAW. MAC or PC will do (studio employment your goal? 95% of them run Mac)
🎧 Any mid-range headphones will work; know their strengths and weaknesses. Run lots of translation tests (car, laptop/phone speaker) to hear how your mix is playing back.
Pro Tools is the industry standard for audio post. Can’t afford it? Use Reaper (technically free) so you can start practicing. Once you have the money saved, get PT Standard/Ultimate.
Take a 10-15 second scene from your favorite movie/tv show/commercial, strip the original audio, and add your own take. Try your best to recreate the original mix. As you gain a better ear, put your own unique spin to it.
❓How do I learn post audio in Pro Tools?
After training your ear for sound editing, you have to stay organized. The best free tutorial on Pro Tools for Post Audio is on Tom Boykin’s YouTube Channel. Use his lessons as a base, you’ll develop your own taste for session layout as you gain more experience.

Having clientele is a must, no matter how much of a beginner you think you are.

Sound libraries can be expensive! Start out with sfx that is free. Search sites such as Freesound,

Use a sound library manager. Tight on budget? Use Basehead. Have $15/month to spare? Get Soundly, can’t recommend it enough (free month promo code: vanessa)
