Day 60 in #nicu (124 to go)
Sometimes it’s hard to watch these little videos. Because these nights went on and on! He wasn’t saturating very well and my belly was full of anxiety and worry! But back then I thought I was calm, and keeping it together. But looking back I can see how I really felt because it took A LONG TIME even after he was out of the woods for that anxiety and worry to go away! And in this clip he was “Out of the woods” this was day 10 of being able to come off the ventilator and breathe on his own.
They had these little hand knitted octopuses that had long tentacles for the babies to hold onto! That way they would leave there tubes and wires alone! And be comforted 🥹
Because in utero bubs grab their cord, which this octopus is designed to mimic 🥰

THEasy way to save a life ⤵️
Premature babies have not developed mature skin or enough fat to help keep both water and heat from escaping the body. If we don't protect this, they can lose a substantial amount, which can cause them to have apneas (breathing pauses) from being cold and elevated sodium (can can cause brain injury amongst other issues).
Wrapping their bodies in plastic bags minimizes these problems until you can put them into a humidified, double-walled incubator.

ARMy sweet micropreemie Ariana was born at 2:27am in our 6th month of pregnancy. This is me holding her 12 days after she was born. I was SO nervous. Oral Immune Therapy (OIT) or "oral swab" in Preterm Infants is done by giving small volumes of colostrum or breast milk directly into the oral cavity or with a cotton swab early im babies who can't feed yet.
Here are the potential benefits:
