HAAnother monoprint using a foil covered card takeaway lid as a plate, this time playing with wiping a lot of the ink away to leave the subject in focus.
I had lots of lovely interest and questions from my last post so I’ll cover some of the main points again here for you just in case:
Equipment used:
- takeaway container lid - basically a foil coated card and yes you can reuse it a few times if you’re gentle 👍🏻
- Ink from Charbonnel - Paynes Grey etching/relief oil based - but any that’s thick enough to work with and not dry out quickly will work
- paper type unknown as an old off cut but its quite thick so has some give to it when going through the press - I’ve soaked it in water for around 15 minutes and then blotted it touch dry to get that embossed edge - plus I think it prints slightly better than dry 🤷♀️

MOSomething else I'm so excited to get back to are my woodcut prints adventure! 🖤
I really want to carry on practising this technique, and I'm dreaming of making multicolour woodblock prints soon, I have so many designs in mind! 👀
I never released this print as I wasn't enamoured with the results and felt like I made many mistakes as I was still getting to grips with it! 🌷
But I thought I'd share just the sounds as I think they're so satisfying!

FOI print about 150 patches each week if not more, and my tortilla press is my go-to in the studio. this thing has cut down on printing time insane style. I used to spend so much time making sure that my prints were getting a good ink transfer without any patchy parts and now with this thing it’s easier than ever 🌙

FEI can’t believe I’ve been carving. Lino for 7 years! I started my printmaking journey in my senior year of college 2017-2018 but didn’t start carving lino till after I graduated while working my first “big kid” job. It’s been a whirlwind of a 7 years. I now work full time as a printmaker and illustrator, have been doing so for over 2 years, and have made an incredible amount of work! This is proof that my dreams are possible if I work hard at them! The practice is what has made all the difference.

Our newest linocut print with embossed elements, the beginning of something more citrus-led. The zest is yet to come.
Printed using a press, then used a ball stylus to achieve those results we envisaged.
A quiet shift from our Autumn collection (Acorn, Maple…), experimenting more with the organic form.

JEIm often asked if i can show the whole process of making a collagraph plate and print, so Ive had a go at filming a new piece from scratch heres part 2 PRINTING THE PLATE
Card collagraph is such a versatile process - there really are no rules and anything will make an impression using a press - its a case of manipulating the medium to get effects you want and the best way to learn is to play and experiment.
Here I made the plate using standard mount board ( the kind a framer would use to make mounts) and textured wall paper, shiny foil tape, PVA and shellac varnish
I print using oil based ink (I like Hawthorns stay open inks)
I buff the plate using scrim or tarlatan loose weave stiff fabric
I print on damp heavy weight paper ( this sis Snowden Cartridge 300 gsm)
using an etching press (mine is a Gunnings etching press)
the ink is rubbed into the plate and buffed off where the highlights should be, I must re ink every-time you take a print.

Remember your work doesn’t have to be representational like mine - collagraph printmaking is a great medium to create abstract work using textures and tones. play and have fun is always my advise
