Hexagonal prism Folding Instructions 0. Start with a hexagon (see my previous reels) 1. Preliminary fold (lines from center to vertex in one fold state, lines from center to midpoint of edge in another) 2. Fold the so two colinear vertices land on their corresponding lines from center to midpoint of edge. Do this on both incidences. This divides the hexagon edges into thirds. 3. Repeat on all sides 4. Collapse a closed twist on the smallest hexagon within. 5. Open the star flaps so the star points land on the center. This makes flaps. Fold each flap unto the opening of the adjacent flap. 6. Uncoil. Use the walls of the structure to raise and spin it. 6b. You can fold back some of the overlapping layers back so you can see inside it when using it. ☆. Model is finished I did this design over and over again in my travels. Wherever I went I had with me a special diecut paper I got made with a hexagon split into thirds. I carried several hundreds. Many people made their own with my guidance on my special paper and I gave many more away. Well, finally I took the time to make a little video for you all. When I was in Spain, I met the Zaragoza Origami group that got together each week. By chance, on the day of our meeting they were folding this exact model. Apparently, it's from a japanese folder from the 80s. I had no idea and with no reference I came across the same design. This is why I refer to a lot of "my designs" as elemental and why I don't bother naming some of these beyond their obvious description; anyone following the principles is bound to encounter these, just as I did. Get up with the get down.
