Proboscis monkey The primate with the largest nose in the world, endemic to Borneo. Here, a beautiful female with whom, from a distance, I shared a moment of deep curiosity. I saw her in the wild in the mangroves of Sepilok. Later, I encountered many family groups along the Kinabatangan River. Honestly, it saddens me to see how palm oil plantations have destroyed a large part of their habitat, that of the proboscis monkey, the Bornean sun bear, the orangutan, the pygmy elephant, and many other species. The forest and its wildlife have been severely reduced by monoculture. It reminds me of my country 🇨🇱. Does this happen in yours too? I was inspired to learn about community initiatives that replant native species, protect local wildlife, and develop ecotourism without sacrificing their culture. Projects that aim for communities to live and grow through the conservation of their forest. Aquí, una hermosa hembra con la que, a la distancia, nos mirábamos con mucha curiosidad. La vi en estado salvaje en los manglares de Sepilok. Después pude ver muchos grupos familiares a lo largo del Kinabatangan River. Sinceramente, me da mucha pena ver cómo el cultivo de palma aceitera ha destruido gran parte de su hábitat: el del proboscis, el oso de Borneo, el orangután, el elefante pigmeo y muchas otras especies. El bosque y su fauna han sido fuertemente reducidos por el monocultivo. Me recuerda a mi país 🇨🇱. ¿En el tuyo también pasa esto? Me encantó conocer iniciativas comunitarias que replantan especies nativas, protegen la fauna local y trabajan en el ecoturismo sin sacrificar su cultura. Proyectos que buscan que la comunidad pueda vivir y desarrollarse a través de la conservación de su bosque. Terima Kasih Kopel.
