Here’s the actual science behind this drill: When you wear an eye patch, you disrupt binocular vision. Normally, both eyes give slightly different angles that the brain fuses into depth perception. Remove one eye, and the brain has to reweight visual input and rely more on: • Motion prediction • Proprioception • Peripheral cues • Cerebellar timing Now add a moving tennis ball. The brain must constantly predict trajectory using incomplete visual data. That activates the prefrontal cortex (executive function), parietal lobe (spatial processing), cerebellum (timing and coordination), and basal ganglia (motor pattern refinement). You are essentially forcing cross talk between sensory and motor networks. Reaction time improves because the brain becomes more efficient at processing limited information and issuing motor commands. This is called sensorimotor integration. There is also a cognitive reserve component. When you repeatedly expose the brain to novel, high demand tasks, you stimulate synaptic plasticity. That means: • Stronger neural pathways • Better myelination of frequently used circuits • Improved network efficiency Over time, this increases your brain’s resilience to stress and aging related decline. Elite athletes use drills like this because sport is chaos. The brain that adapts fastest wins. The key is novelty and challenge. If it feels slightly uncomfortable and mentally taxing, that’s the point. Credits: @louisanicola_ @thediaryofaceopodcast

When children lie, jump, roll, or press on the ball, they are actually training their body’s balance system (vestibular sense), touch sense (tactile sense), and body awareness (proprioception). 💡 These exercises help kids feel more calm, focused, and in control of their movements — skills that support learning, play, and daily life. It looks like play, but it’s powerful therapy. 💕 #SensoryPlay #ChildDevelopment #AutismTherapy #OccupationalTherapy #ParentTips

Proprioception is your brain’s ability to know where your body is in space without using vision. It relies on sensors in your muscles, joints, and tendons that constantly send position information to the brain. When you close your eyes and try to touch your fingers together, vision is removed and proprioception does the work. Small misses are normal but larger consistent errors can occur when sensory nerves or the cerebellum are not processing signals accurately. Did you know this about your & your kids’ brain?! 🧠✨ Can you complete all the exercises?! 🚨 Comment “High Level” for more information! ⬇️ What if I told you that the simple, playful activities you do with your kids can actually supercharge their brain? ⚡👦👧 By adding exercises that activate different brain zones—right and left hemispheres, memory pathways, and motor circuits—you’re not just burning energy. You’re building focus, mental clarity, learning strength, and reducing brain fog in a natural, powerful way. 💡🌈 Here’s what’s happening inside the brain: • Movement + coordination = increased blood flow + stronger neural connections 🚀 • Brain-gym and cross-body drills boost attention, working memory, and cognitive flexibility 🎯 • Less mental clutter, fewer restless nights, better learning and retention 😴➡️📚 Try this challenge: Choose 1–2 fun “brain moves” each day—cross crawls, mirror movements, rhythm drills, bilateral coordination games. Keep it playful. Keep it short. Keep it daily. 🎵🤸‍♂️🤹‍♀️ #brainpowerkids #focushack #mindbodyconnection #learningunleashed #mentalclarity kidsexercisefun braingym lessbrainfog betterfocus parenthacks

Struggling with focus? Try this 5-minute brain reset. 🧠 This activity makes kids track two sides at the same time, eyes searching for matching numbers while both hands move together to cover them. It activates attention, concentration, visual tracking, and coordination between both hemispheres of the brain. A great warm-up before math, reading, or any challenging task.🔥 #kidsfocus #brainactivities #braingames #preschoolactivities #homeschoolideas

5 movements that build your child’s brain and your connection with them 🧠 When we talk about building the brain, we’re not talking about worksheets or memorization. We’re talking about building brain wiring, the neurons and connections that help the brain thrive, not just function. These movements all: • Connect the left and right hemispheres of the brain • Support sensory-motor loops that help integrate reflexes • Improve coordination, focus, and emotional regulation • Strengthen connection between you and your child Here are my top 5 brain-building, connection-building movements to do with your kids: 1️⃣ Plank taps Cross-body tapping builds bilateral coordination, core stability, and brain communication. ATNR integration exercise! 2️⃣ Crab walk (make it a race) Adds challenge, vestibular input, and fun—perfect for building strength and body awareness. TLR integration exercise. 3️⃣ Standing back-to-back ball passes Or cross-body claps. These force the brain to coordinate timing, rotation, and midline crossing. ATNR integration exercise. 4️⃣ Wheelbarrow Powerful for shoulder stability, reflex integration support, and whole-body coordination. TLR and STNR integration exercise. 5️⃣ Clapping games (Miss Susie style or make your own) This is where the magic happens. Known patterns build confidence. New patterns build neurons. New patterns force the brain to refocus, adapt, and rewire—this is how coordination improves and emotional regulation follows. These are must-do movements if you want a child who can: • Learn new things without melting down • Handle frustration better • Improve coordination and body awareness • Stay calmer during challenge and conflict What a fun evening to mix and match a few of these and build both brains and bonds at the same time. 💬 COMMENT “REWIRED” to get on our Rewired Kids App launch list (launching 2026) 💾 Save this post to try later 💬 Comment below if you’ll try this with your kids 🏷️ Tag us if you do—we LOVE seeing it Brain training is where we see real change. 1. The Bridge: Passing the Ball ● By passing an object from the left hand to the right hand, he is forced to cross the center of his body. ● This requires the motor cortex of both hemispheres to hand off information instantaneously. It strengthens the communication "highway" between the two sides. 2. Superman Pose: Passing Ball Behind Back ● Because he cannot see his hands behind his back, his brain must rely entirely on internal maps. ● Passing the ball behind the back requires high-level integration between the sensory cortex and motor cortex. 3. Infinity Pattern (Figure-8) Between Legs ● The "Infinity" or Figure-8 pattern requires the eyes to cross the midline while the hands do the same. ● Transitioning the ball from a "front-to-back" pass to a "back-to-front" pass while maintaining that Figure-8 shape essentially asks the brain to perform a high-level motor recalibration. 4. Bear Walk with Tape Crossings ● By forcing the hands to cross over tape lines (Left hand to Right side), we are correcting a common issue in ND children where they prefer to keep the left side of the body on the left and right on the right. 5. "Clap-Cross Crawl-Jump" Sequence ● Sequence strengthens left hemisphere. ● The "Cross Crawl" portion specifically targets hemispheric integration, while the "Jump" provides a bilateral reset for the nervous system. 6. Heel-to-Toe Walk + Math (Cognitive Load) ● Heel-to-Toe: Challenges balance (Cerebellum). ● Plus 1 Math: Engages the Left Hemisphere (Logic/Math). ● Holding Heavy Ball: Provides grounding input to the Right Hemisphere (Spatial/Sensory). which is the ultimate test of hemispheric harmony. 7. Metronome Clapping in Heel-to-Toe Stance ● The Stance: Since each cerebellar hemisphere primarily controls the same side of the body, maintaining this balance requires both sides of the cerebellum to communicate perfectly. ● The Clapping: Clapping is a bilateral symmetrical movement. ● The Metronome: It forces the slower hemisphere to "speed up" to match the beat, effectively syncing the two sides. Syncing to rhythmic beats strengthens the left brain. #autism #brainbalance #exercise #childdevelopment #routine
