I only scored 2As for my SPM, and for a long time, I thought I was a failure. I know many of you feel like SPM is the end all be all, but it is not. I was told it would be very hard for me to find a job, that I should settle for menial work, and that I simply could not do much with my life. While I did not perform well academically, SPM revealed something important. It showed me where my strengths were and where I struggled. Today, I am a teacher under the Ministry of Education. I have just submitted my notice for PhD thesis submission at a top university in Malaysia. I am also building my Instagram page, with hopes of growing it into a podcast and a public speaking coaching business. Career wise, I am doing just as well as some of my friends who scored straight As in SPM. Also, there are many virtues that matter far more in the workforce than your SPM results. Your ability to receive feedback, to communicate clearly, to connect with others, and the speed at which you turn ideas into action often play a bigger role in success than intelligence alone. Lastly, no matter what anyone has said, whether it is your friends, teachers, or even family members, you are not a failure. And it is never too late. #malaysia #teacher #spm

Why I didn’t score a distinction in PSM 😅 (aka what I should’ve done differently): 1. Thought PSM was “easy” so I gave it less time but you know it carries highest weightage for NEET PG 2. Ignored the small topics that carried BIG marks. 3. Focused on theory, forgot about diagrams and flowcharts. 4. Revised only once — and that too in a hurry. 5. Didn’t solve previous years’ questions (biggest mistake). 6. Underestimated statistics… and it showed in the paper. 7. Didn’t make short notes for last-minute recall. 8. Tried to “understand” instead of memorizing important lists. 9. Kept National Health Programs/Yojanas for last-minute prep, thinking I’ll memorize them — spoiler: I couldn’t. 10. Waited till the last week to actually “take PSM seriously.” 👉 Lesson: PSM looks chill, but it’s a silent GPA killer. Play smart. 💬 Which of these mistakes have you made too? No fluff. No drama. Here’s the structure you should follow 👇 1. Academic Background (straight & relevant) Mention your degree, subjects, and key learnings Example: “I completed my Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering, where I built a strong foundation in thermodynamics and design.” 2. Why THIS Course (very specific) Show what skills you lack + how this course fills that gap Example: “To deepen my knowledge in data-driven design, I aim to study modules like Advanced Simulation and Product Optimization.” 3. Why THIS University and professor or module (no generic lines) Talk about modules, curriculum, or faculty Example: “The course structure at [University Name], especially its focus on applied research, aligns with my career goals.” 4. Career Goals (practical, not dreamy) Be clear about job role + industry Example: “Post-graduation, I aim to work as a product analyst in the automotive sector.” 5. Why Germany (logical reasons only) Focus on industry + education system Example: “Germany’s strong engineering ecosystem and industry integration make it ideal for my career path.” 6. Conclusion (short & confident) No emotional ending Example: “This program will equip me with the skills required to achieve my professional goals.” 👉 If your SOP sounds emotional, rewrite it. Germany prefers clarity over storytelling.
