The push-up is a compound, multi-joint movement. It doesn‘t just work your chest - it also targets the anterior deltoids and triceps. While the chest muscles are the primary focus, your shoulders and arms play a major role in the movement. To perform push-ups with proper form and get the most benefit, here are 4 key details you need to focus on: 1. Elbow angle & hand position Keep elbows at about a 45° angle by externally rotating your shoulders. Spread your fingers for better stability and wrist comfort. 2. Shoulders down Avoid shrugging. Keep shoulders away from your ears to reduce strain and improve control. 3. Let your shoulder blades move Retract on the way down, protract on the way up. This helps your chest fully stretch and contract. 4. Tight core, no sagging Keep your body in a straight line. Engage your core to prevent your hips from dropping or lifting. #fitness #bodybuilding #pushup

Push up progressions! We all start somewhere 🥰 Level 1: on the wall! The reason I opt for this over knee push-ups is because it allows you to practice proper form. Squeeze your glutes to help brace your core. Hands should be slightly below your shoulders. The closer your feet are to the wall the easier it is! Level 2: incline push-ups. Again, you’re able to practice proper form and full range of motion. When you’re able to perform 10 FULL RANGE push-ups from this position you’re ready to progress to the next one. Level 3: SLOW 5 second decent (going down) then drop to your knees to bring yourself back up. The eccentric part of the movement will help you build strength to progress to a full push-up. When you’re able to complete 10 of these then progress to a full push-up. Comment “push it” if you want another critical push up tip!🥰

Be sure to keep these 3 things in mind as you practice: ⭐️ Don’t let those hips sag! Keep a straight line from head to toe by bracing that core, pressing through your shoulders/hands, and keeping those eyes down just ahead of your heads. ⭐️ Keep the elbows in a tucked position instead of letting them flare out to the sides as you lower. Your shoulders shouldn’t be creeping up on your ears - keep them drawn down. ⭐️ Make sure you are starting with shoulders over wrists and keeping a more vertical forearm as you lower down and press up. You don’t want to add stress to your elbows by pushing with poor shoulder, wrist alignment. Most people don’t set up their push-ups right: ✨ Lie flat on your stomach with feet hip-width apart ✨ Place hands slightly wider than shoulders and spread your fingers for support ✨ Keep hands behind your shoulders not directly under them ✨ If hands are too far forward elbows will flare out to a 90 degree angle ✨ Keep elbows at a 45 degree angle to protect your joints ✨ Let shoulders move slightly forward and back not straight down ✨ Keep your neck and spine neutral with your core tight ✨ Push up using your chest and triceps ✨ Inhale coming down ✨ Exhale coming up If you can’t do a push on your own yet apply these same tips using your knees to guide you!
