California-based startup Seneca has raised $60 million to deploy autonomous fire-fighting drones equipped with dual water cannons. The system addresses a critical gap in wildfire response: the first ten minutes when small fires can still be contained. Each quadcopter drone carries 100 pounds of water and foam, spraying at over 100 PSI. Five-drone teams deploy automatically to GPS coordinates from AI detection systems, flying at 30 mph to establish containment perimeters around new ignitions. With California losing over 4 million acres to wildfires in 2020 and fire season now year-round, Seneca’s sub-10-minute response times could prevent small starts from becoming catastrophic blazes.
