OVR JUMP Performance is a tool that measures the Reactive Strength Index (RSI), which quantifies explosive power through jump height and ground contact time. It aims to help athletes and trainers determine strengths and weaknesses, monitor progress, and identify appropriate training loads for clients and athletes. Here with us is Coach Reil Espino, the Department Chair of the Sports Science Department and Head Strength and Conditioning Coach of the UST Growling Tigers, who demonstrated and taught our staff here in Transcend Performance PH how to properly administer these tests to our patients/clients. Shown here are some sample tests used to assess RSI in athletes.

The determinant of a matrix has a profound visual effect when viewed in the context of linear transformations in two or three dimensions. In a 2D space, a matrix transformation can be thought of as stretching, rotating, or flipping the plane. The determinant quantifies how the transformation affects area: if the determinant is large in magnitude, the transformation significantly expands or contracts space, while if it is zero, the transformation collapses space into a lower dimension (such as a line or a point). Geometrically, the determinant represents the scaling factor of the area of a unit square (or volume in 3D) under the given transformation. Moreover, a negative determinant indicates that the transformation includes a reflection, flipping the orientation of shapes in space. When the determinant of a transformation matrix is positive, it means that the transformation preserves orientation. This means that if we take a shape, such as a triangle, and apply the transformation, the shape will be stretched, rotated, or skewed, but it will not be flipped. In other words, a positive determinant ensures that the basis vectors of the transformation remain in the same relative order. For example, in 2D, if the determinant of a transformation matrix is +1, then the transformation preserves area without flipping; if it is +2, the transformation doubles the area of any shape it acts on while keeping its orientation unchanged. Thus, a positive determinant implies that space is being expanded or contracted in a way that maintains the original orientation of vectors.
