Because let’s be honest - it’s never the food itself we are afraid of. Are you actually afraid of pizza? Or are you afraid of gaining weight? Let’s take it a step further. Are you actually afraid of gaining weight? Or are you afraid of what people will think about you if you do gain weight? Are you actually anxious when you think about carbs? Or are you worried about losing your figure? Take it a step further. Are you actually worried about losing your figure? Or are you worried about not feeling good enough when you look in the mirror? Are you actually fearful of peanut butter? Or are you afraid of feeling out of control? 99% of the time our fears around food stems back to self-worth. We are afraid that if we eat that food, it will change the way we look which will change how we value ourselves and how we perceive others value us. That sheds light on the fact that our self-worth is unduly influenced by body image, weight, and shape. Despite having legally purchased their home, the Myers family was met with intense hostility. Over the following weeks, white residents gathered in protest outside their house, hurled rocks, burned crosses, and even constructed an effigy. The local police often failed to intervene meaningfully, while the family endured nearly two months of daily harassment. The Myers’ arrival in Levittown exposed the deeply embedded racism in American suburban development. Levittown, like many postwar housing projects, had been constructed with federal support but enforced segregation through informal and formal means—including FHA policies that denied loans to Black buyers. The Myers family’s refusal to leave, despite the threats, became a symbol of resilience and helped draw national attention to housing discrimination. The 7 day No Sugar challenge is not meant to be restrictive it’s a nice guide in how to incorporating whole some ingredients and eliminate foods with lots of sugar that cause high blood sugar and glucose levels in your body. Only a few days in and I can instantly feel a difference! Breakfast: Chocolate Avocado Smoothie ( 1/2 avocado, almond milk, 1 tsp coconut oil, 2 tbsp cacao powder, 1 cup frozen spinach, cinnamon, vanilla extract ) Lunch: 2 sourdough bread slices, sautéed fermented kimchi, green onions & 2 sunny side up eggs Snack: Rice crackers with hummus, turkey and veggie Dinner: Moroccan Tajine with butternut squash , couscous & Chickpeas The 7 Day No Sugar Challenge is now available in a e-book in our @soulsyncbody shop! He pointed out the 20’s when our nation subscribed to an “American First” policy that included restrictive immigration, and global trade—the same sentiments we’re seeing today - sentiments they unequivocally helped us slide into the Great Depression. Unlike the 20’s—today we have the privilege of looking back, and learning from the inevitable economic and social struggles that followed. We can prevent the inevitability of a path laid out by “isms” we just need to remember our history, and remember the incredible activism of those who overcame those challenges. We must inhabit that spirit and commit now to be better and do better.

I’ve been working in education for 15 years, including some of the most restrictive settings outside of a hospital. I’ve seen a lot of physical behavior. And here’s what I can confidently tell you almost never stops it: A lecture. When Grace was 1 year old, she went through what I like to call her “explosive era.” Thankfully, it was very short lived. My priority wasn’t explaining why she shouldn’t get physical. My priority was giving her a way to communicate so she didn’t need to, and making sure that when she did, it didn’t turn into a big moment. No big faces. No loud voices. No long talks. No rushing in with a flood of attention. I know what you’re thinking, “How is she supposed to learn not to do it again if you don’t discipline her?” Let me ask you this… did time out, yelling, hugging, or taking things away make it never happen again? Of course not. Because kids don’t stop behaviors because we explain, react, or have a big response. They stop when the behavior stops working. And that can look different depending on how old your child is, but at one year of age, “not working” simply means it doesn’t create a big reaction. P.S. If we haven’t met yet—hi! I’m Jenna.
