This is a little clip of part of the process of making our Lungo bracelet and necklace. Each link is reticulated which entails heating the gold to the sweet spot where the surface starts to move to create a soft texture. I’ve been working on this ring and earring project using a technique called reticulation 🔥 The reticulation process involves heating the sterling silver sheet in cycles to create an organic texture. The metal is heated in order to make the copper (that naturally occurs in silver) come to the top surface. I completed 3 cycles of heating and pickling the silver but more can be completed to create increased texture 🌿 It was also brilliant for practicing torch control when heating the silver as you had to heat the metal to the correct temperature without melting it! 😂 I then used the Keum-boo process to add 24ct gold sheet to the sterling silver before finally soldering one of my handmade sterling silver daisies onto the ring 🌼🥰 #jewellerymaking #jewellery #jewelleryacademy #finejewellerydiploma #jewellerymakingtechniques #ringdesign #reticulation #soldering #texturedsilver #makingreel

Saturday, April 12, 2025 10:00 am - 1:00 pm PDT Instructor: Jennifer Stenhouse Reticulation is the surface treatment of metal using heat from a torch to create a wrinkling and crackling texture. This can be used alone or in combination with a number of other treatments like granulation and Keumboo, to make uniquely beautiful work. Reticulation (or “samorodok” in Russia) has been used as a surface treatment dating back to the 19th-century Russian and northern European metalsmiths - like Fabergé - on things like cigarette cases, boxes, and flasks. Reticulated metal can be soldered and treated like other patterned stock metal. There are several metal alloys we discuss, including sterling, shibuichi, brass, and stock purchased Reticulation sterling. Bring your scrap sterling and brass, if you have it! All classes include the video recording, which you will have access to for 60 days after the class. The Zoom link, handouts, video(s), and other important information can be found by clicking on the individual class link on the “My Courses” page. The Zoom link and handout (if any) will be available 24 hours before the class starts.
