SALADO, Texas (KWTX) — Bell County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help identifying a package thief who was caught on camera stealing from a home near Salado. The theft happened on Dec. 3, 2025, at about 9:30 a.m. on Rose Lane, just outside Salado, according to the sheriff’s office. A Ring camera caught a Black man in a white car stealing a package from the driveway, the sheriff’s office confirmed. The sheriff’s office said package thefts happen a lot this time of year as thieves go after Christmas packages. One after another they fail to see the barrier in time, with sudden and sometimes dramatic collisions. The gate was installed in 2023 by a resident trying to stop trespassing after “no entry” signs to nearby allotments were ignored. Over the following months several incidents were recorded. No serious injuries were reported, but the frequency raised questions about safety and visibility. In 2025 the gate was repainted bright yellow. Despite that, similar accidents have continued and the debate hasn’t died down. Views are split: some see the clips as dark humor and say that with clear signage it’s a matter of personal responsibility; others argue the gate’s placement and initially poor visibility created an avoidable hazard. The situation has sparked a broader debate about where property rights end and public safety begins, especially in shared or semi-accessible space.
