RO@sandrabradley_ has been busy in Iceland. First woman to lift the Fullsterkur stone at Dritvik and earned some steps with the Húsafell stone 💪
Dritvik Stones of Strength
The sailors who rowed out from Dritvik to fish from open boats tested their strength by lifting these stones. The name for each stone is associated with strength needed to lift it onto a plinth or natural stone platform. Only very few, maybe one out of a thousand, could lift the most heavy one - Full Strong.
Fullsterkur / Full Strong (154kg / 340lb)
Hálfsterkur / Half Strong (100kg / 220lb)
Hálfdrættingur / Weakling (54kg / 119lb)
Amlóði / Useless (23kg / 51lb)
Húsafell Stone (186kg / 410lb)
The Húsafell Stone is said to have been crafted from a large rock over 200 years ago, when a local pastor named Snorri Björnsson adopted it as the door to his goat pen. Legend says his daughter could carry the famous stone a full round around the pen.

IMExactly 3 years ago to the day this video was taken. I still had 2 years of medical school to go, we'd come home from the Olympics without a medal, and I hadn't rowed in a double for months

KATo everyone who’s walked, cycled, ran, swam, rowed for @fightmnd during #challenge27 I’m so in awe of you and it’s been amazing to be your mentor.
The challenge ends this Saturday - which is when my PT @lppt_fitness is joining me and a small bunch of superstars to run 27 kms in Brisbane. I think it’s the furthest ALL of us have ever run. And it’s going to be mega TOUGH but isn’t that the whole point?!

Tíarnan O’ Donnell was an athlete looking to discover what was possible and found rowing through one of our NextGen events just over two years ago.
From having never rowed before he took a chance on the sport and worked his way to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, paired with Katie O’ Brien (who also found Para rowing through a similar try it out day!)
Allianz NextGen in Limerick could be the start of your Para sport journey!

We got to enjoy Rally Estonia as VIPs and some racing in the quad. Probably only ones who have rowed on Kääriku lake as it was only 20-30 race pace strokes long 😅

FREllie Reynolds was part of @theresherows a team of four women who rowed 3000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean last December. Facing 40-foot waves, dangerous weather, treacherous wildlife, sleep deprivation and possible capsizes.
Given that 64% of girls will drop out of sport before the age of 17, There She Rows wanted to challenge that by taking on this mammoth challenge. In collaboration with us at Freeda, our community submitted stories detailing the barriers and challenges they had faced as women when accessing sport. Those stories were then put on the boat, and rowed across the ocean.
We sat down with Ellie following the race and talked about her experience. From what it was like to row continuously with little to no sleep, to the amazing things she saw and learnt.
