We went together recently as a #RubyFallsPartner and he thought it was awesome! 🙌🏼 ⌛️THE HISTORY: Ruby Falls was accidentally discovered by Leo Lambert in 1928. Leo named the waterfall and cave after his wife, Ruby, and opened the iconic Chattanooga attraction to the public in 1929 ❤️ Now it’s one of the top attractions in the area! 🚗 ADDRESS: 1720 South Scenic Hwy Chattanooga, TN 37409 🕑 HOURS: Open everyday, takes 1-1.25 hours to tour 📌 check this out on your next trip to Chattanooga & stay in a unique treehouse at @treetophideaways - located right behind Ruby Falls! Pro tip: winter is one of the BEST times to go, we only had 1 other person on our tour. And it’s the tallest underground waterfall open to the public in the United States 💧✨ It’s also one of the most unexpected things I’ve seen in Tennessee. 📍 Ruby Falls | Chattanooga, Tennessee Planning to go? Here’s everything you need to know: 🎟 Tickets Around $25 to $30 for adults and slightly less for kids. Prices vary by date and time so booking online ahead of time is recommended. ⏰ Tour Length About 1 hour total. You’ll walk through cave tunnels before reaching the waterfall at the very end which makes the reveal even better. 👟 Difficulty Easy. Roughly half a mile round trip on paved paths. 🌡 Temperature The cave stays around 60 degrees year round. It feels amazing in the summer but bring a light layer if you get cold easily. 📅 Best Time to Visit Weekdays and earlier tours tend to be less crowded. It’s open year round which also makes it a great rainy day activity. 📸 Pro Tip The waterfall lighting rotates colors. Save this! 🗺 These are the top three destinations we suggest you visit if you're in Chattanooga 🚂 💚 Rock City Gardens 💚 Incline Railway 💚 Ruby Falls 🏔 TIP: Book your tickets online to save time We started off with Rock City Gardens and you'll want to leave yourself at least 2-3 hours to complete it. It opens everyday at 8:30 am and is $28 pp. 🧚🏻 Next, you'll go to the Incline Railway and wait in line to ascend the mountain backwards at a 73 degree slope! It takes about 10 minutes to get to the top and is $15 pp. 🚃 Grab some lunch and then cool off with a walking cave tour at Ruby Falls, $30 pp. The tour lasts about an hour but you definitely want to pre book your tickets for this one and select the time you will arrive! 🎫 🔦 🖼 We conquered all these and even had time to explore the downtown area for street art! The paved 0.5 mile trail is absolutely gorgeous. We went after a rainstorm so the water was really flowing! I have to say the Lost Sea is my top pick 😍 📌Note: these are just a few highly commercialized cave tours that you can find on Google. Tennessee is home to the most caves out of any US state (over 10,000+) but most are private or require permits. 📍The Lost Sea Adventure in Sweetwater, TN - just over an hour from Chattanooga. - What makes it cool: You can ride a boat in a cave and see the largest underground lake in the US 🚤 lots of great history too! - Con: This tour may not be suitable for those with mobility issues as it is very steep. 📍The Caverns in Pelham, TN - one hour from Chattanooga (not to be confused with Cumberland Caverns) - What makes it cool: Part of it is an underground live music venue & you can see a concert in a cave 🎶 it’s awesome! - Con: I haven’t done their actual cave tour, just went for a concert so not sure how that part is. 📍Ruby Falls on Lookout Mountain - short drive from downtown Chattanooga. - What makes it cool: You can see the tallest & deepest cave waterfall in the US 💦 - Cons: It’s the most popular on this list, but many people are divided on their opinions of it. 📍Raccoon Mountain Caverns - short drive from downtown Chattanooga. - What makes it cool: It’s one of the most geologically active cave tours in the South, you might see salamanders & other cave critters 🦎 - Cons: Not suitable for young children and the property could use some TLC as it’s very outdated. 💭 Anyone else been to all of these?! Everyone should visit here at least once in their life👇🏼 Be sure to share this one with someone you think would love to experience this ➡️ It’s only 2 hours from both Atlanta or Nashville 🚐 Ruby Falls in Chattanooga, Tennessee📍 A guided tour deep into Lookout Mountain to witness this spectacular Underground Waterfall is something that just about anyone can do 🫶🏼 You start out with an elevator ride about 260ft down into the heart of the mountain. Then you walk with your group roughly a quarter mile until you reach the falls which are located about 1,120ft below the mountain’s surface 🏔️ The Underground Waterfall is absolutely breathtaking but so is the super cool cave system that you walk through to reach the falls. You pass through all kinds of cave formations that will have you in awe the whole time 🤯 The best time to visit is… Year round!!! Since it’s a cave system deep underground the temperature actually remains a comfortable 60° year round and you don’t have to worry about outside weather conditions. Heavy rain and snow are actually a good thing because they will increase the flow of the falls. Since there’s no light to worry about it’s literally up to you when the best time to visit is 🙌🏼 Adult tickets are $28.95 and they have discounts for children and seniors 🎟️ Most people spend about 2-3 hours total at Ruby Falls but the tour itself is about 90 minutes ⏱️ Follow @wanderlusttravelcouple for more travel inspo ⬇️
