EEOn April 19, 1995, Timothy McVeigh bombed the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, killing 168 people, including 19 children. Claiming revenge for the Waco Siege and Ruby Ridge standoff—both controversial government operations—McVeigh targeted the building on the Waco anniversary. Though he later claimed ignorance of the daycare center, this was widely dismissed. Motivated by anti-government and white supremacist beliefs, McVeigh meticulously planned the attack with accomplice Terry Nichols. Nichols received 161 consecutive life sentences, while McVeigh was executed in 2001. In a final letter, he wrote, “I am sorry these people had to lose their lives, but that’s the nature of the beast.” The bombing remains one of the deadliest acts of domestic terrorism in U.S. history.
