LAYou're seeing a brand new 240z getting stamped at Jun Cheng. I saw they were starting to build these so I took the trip all the way to Bao Ying China to check out the factory to see how they are making these brand new bodies.
In this quick clip that I shot on my Google Pixel you can see them finishing the 240z rear quarter, as well as the front fenders and there's also a clip of the roof being stamped in one shot.
Think of how many cars you can restore and keep on the road with all of these newly stamped parts. To stamp a complete 240z they have around 300 dies. They are ramping up production right now. These 240z complete bodies sell for $9500 USD.
The big dies, like for the roof costs about 15k USD to produce. Just in dies alone it's hundreds and thousands of dollars.
One big thing I'm going to try to tackle with this series of videos is showing the different ways the Chinese are enjoying car culture. The western perception that the parts are low quality is warranted for certain things, but it's also incredible to me that they are taking on this monumental task of building a new chassis when pretty much no one else would try for this price point. I'm curious to see how all this is going to play out, but I'm gonna do my best to tell the story my way.
