This isn't just an animation—it’s the actual orbital path of Star S2 around the supermassive black hole at the center of our Milky Way, Sagittarius A*. For 27 years, astronomers tracked S2 as it danced around a 4.1-million-solar-mass "invisible" object. 🛰️✨ The mind-blowing part? Look closely at the orbit. It doesn’t trace a perfect, closed loop. Instead, the orbit itself rotates over time, creating a flower-like pattern. This is called Schwarzschild Precession. 🌀 According to Newton, gravity should keep the orbit in a fixed ellipse. But Einstein’s General Relativity predicted that in extreme gravity, space-time is so warped that the orbit must shift. In 2020, the VLT (Very Large Telescope) finally confirmed this shift, proving Einstein's theory holds up even at the edge of a black hole! 🤯🧪 Who else is fascinated by the center of our galaxy? 🙋‍♂️👇 (Video via unknown source. Sagittarius A vs TON 618 - At the heart of our galaxy lies Sagittarius A*, a supermassive black hole quietly guiding the motion of nearby stars. Far beyond, TON 618 stands as one of the largest known black holes, a distant quasar whose immense mass and energy make it a true giant of the universe.

☀️ WHERE IS THE SUN HEADING? Our Sun is constantly moving through space. Right now, it is orbiting the center of the Milky Way galaxy at about 500,000 miles per hour. We are located roughly 27,000 light-years away from Sagittarius A*, the supermassive black hole at the center of our galaxy. But we are not heading straight into it. Instead, the Sun follows a massive orbit that takes about 230 million years to complete just one trip around the galaxy. So even though we are always moving… we are simply circling the center, not falling into it. Please note that downloads or any unauthorized use of this work are forbidden unless communicated. The most extreme cosmic choreography ever. 🌌 Deep in the core of the Milky Way hides a giant: Sagittarius A*, a supermassive black hole weighing in at about 4.3 million Suns. And it’s not sitting there quietly. Around it, a group of stars — the so-called S-stars — are racing through space in a gravitational frenzy. Stellar daredevils: The gravity near the galactic center is overwhelming, accelerating these stars to astonishing velocities. One of them, S2, loops around the black hole in only 16 years, hitting nearly 3% of light speed. Another, S4714, pushes the limits even further at roughly 8% of light speed — fast enough to cover the distance between Earth and the Moon in about 15 seconds. Einstein’s theory under pressure: After more than three decades of observations, astronomers have shown that Einstein’s General Relativity remains rock solid — even in this extreme environment. These stars aren’t just orbiting; they’re stress-testing the laws of physics. ✨ If you had the chance to witness this cosmic “dance” from a safe spacecraft, would you dare to get close to the center — or admire the spectacle from afar . The most dangerous thing in the universe looks this beautiful. A black hole is a region in space where gravity is so powerful that nothing, not even light, can escape. It forms when a massive star collapses under its own gravity after a supernova explosion. At its center lies a singularity a point of infinite density. Surrounding it is the event horizon, the boundary where escape becomes impossible. Black holes don’t “suck” everything in; their gravity works like any other object, just much stronger up close. Supermassive black holes exist at the centers of galaxies, including Sagittarius A in the Milky Way. They can bend space, slow down time, and even collide to create gravitational waves. In 2019, the Event Horizon Telescope captured the first-ever image of one. Black holes are not just cosmic destroyers they help scientists understand the deepest laws of the universe. 🌌 #blackhole #space #nasa #Interstellar #universe

There are stars at the centre of our galaxy orbiting something so massive they move at 3% the speed of light. And nobody told you 🌌 At the heart of the Milky Way, 26,000 light years from Earth, sits Sagittarius A*, a supermassive black hole 4 million times the mass of our Sun. Surrounding it is a tight cluster of stars called the S stars. They have been quietly orbiting this monster for billions of years The most studied is S2. It completes one full orbit every 16 years. At its closest approach it passes within just 120 astronomical units of the black hole, roughly four times the distance from the Sun to Neptune, and at that point it is travelling at 17 million miles per hour. Nearly 3 percent the speed of light Here is why that matters beyond spectacle Two independent teams have been tracking S2 since the 1990s. One led by Reinhard Genzel at the Max Planck Institute in Germany. One led by Andrea Ghez at UCLA. Both teams discovered something extraordinary. S2's orbit does not follow a simple ellipse the way Newton's laws of gravity predict. Instead it traces a rosette shape, shifting slightly with each pass. This is called Schwarzschild precession and it was predicted only by Einstein's general theory of relativity. The same effect was first spotted in Mercury's orbit around our Sun in 1915 and used as early proof of Einstein's theory. A century later, scientists saw it happening around a supermassive black hole 🔭 In 2018, as S2 swung close to Sagittarius A*, its light stretched toward longer wavelengths exactly as Einstein's theory predicted. Confirmed to 5 sigma certainty. The gold standard of physics proof For this work, Genzel and Ghez were awarded the 2020 Nobel Prize in Physics CURIOUS FACT: S4716, another S star discovered in 2022, completes a full orbit around Sagittarius A* in just 4 years. It comes so close that the space around it is dense with gas, dust and debris, suggesting the galactic centre is far more crowded and active than we ever imagined ✨ . . . . . . . . . . . . DO YOU KNOW ? 🌏 Part 363 ✨FUN FACT : At the center of the Milky Way lies “Sagittarius A*” a supermassive black hole about 4.3 million times the mass of the Sun. Nearby S-stars race around it at incredible speeds due to its overwhelming gravity. One star, S2, completes an orbit in just 16 years, reaching nearly 3% the speed of light, while S4714 can reach around 8% of light speed fast enough to travel from Earth to the Moon in about 15 seconds. Gravity’s ultimate playground. 🌌✨🌀🌑 For over 20 years, astronomers at the Keck Observatory watched the center of our galaxy with unblinking eyes. This time-lapse is the result: a front-row seat to the most powerful dance in the universe. The Invisible Monster: Notice how the stars seem to be orbiting... nothing? That empty spot is Sagittarius A*, a supermassive black hole. It’s so dense that it holds the mass of 4 million suns, yet it’s invisible because its gravity is so strong that even light can't escape. Breaking Physics: The stars you see are moving at impossible speeds millions of miles per hour just to keep from being swallowed. This footage didn't just look cool; it actually won scientists the Nobel Prize for proving that supermassive black holes really do exist at the hearts of galaxies. We are all revolving around a mystery. 🔭💎 ✨ If you could safely visit the center of the galaxy for one day, what’s the first thing you’d want to see up close?
