The brown scapular is one of the most beloved Marian devotionals in the history of the Church. But what is it? Where did it come from? Any Catholic can wear the scapular—even children! It is important to remember that the scapular is not a “magic amulet.” We cannot wear it, live a sinful life, and expect to be saved from hell. The scapular is not necessary for salvation. But it is a powerful sacramental, and a truly amazing gift from the Blessed Mother. When worn in faith, the scapular is a devotion which leads us to holiness and protects us from eternal damnation. If you haven’t embraced the scapular and its promises, you should!

As someone who benefits tremendously from tangible aids in prayer, wearing a scapular is so comforting. I have found this devotion to be an original “liturgical style”—donning a piece of fabric for the sake of orienting a heart towards worship. In my moments of anxiety, it’s so simple to just hold onto the little piece of wool as a reminder of the Good Shepherd and the consolation of His Mother. To be clothed in the brown scapular is to constantly call to mind the nearness of Our Lady—and where she is the Holy Spirit comes to dwell (Annunciation/Pentecost) and there Christ is made present again. Wool often signifies in Scripture protection & anointing (as the oils used to coat and preserve the wool reminds us of the Holy Spirit covering us) as in Psalm 23. The scapular is a simple devotion that transforms the ordinary & draws us into contemplation.

Give it a try! 👍🏼 Start in a plank position, allow the chest to drop towards the ground and slowly push up and allow the upper back to round up. 👏🏻 It can be a bit difficult at first, but don’t be discouraged; it takes time to learn to engage different muscles that we don’t use very often. Most people will not be able to try this because their scapulas don't have that range of motion. If you notice the skeleton, this is much more about the movement of the scapula than on the shoulders. There are movements like scapular push ups and scapular pull ups that will help with this. But don't rush to do any new movement you see online. Get to know your body first. 翼狀肩胛(Scapular Winging)是什麼? 為什麼只練肌力,常常沒有效? 翼狀肩胛(Scapular Winging) 指的是在靜態站姿或動作過程中, 肩胛骨內側緣或下角明顯翹起, 無法穩定貼附在肋骨表面滑動。 很多人在發現翼狀肩胛後, 第一個直覺會認為是: 🔘中、下斜方肌太弱 🔘前鋸肌不夠力 🔘旋轉肌群控制不足 於是開始大量進行 夾背、前鋸肌、旋轉肌訓練。 但實務上, 這類介入常常效果有限。 ⸻ 關鍵原因在於: 問題不只在「肌力」,而是在「位置」。 肩胛骨的穩定, 前提是它必須能貼附在肋骨上, 並在肋骨表面完成 上旋、後傾、內外滑動等路徑。 如果肩胛骨本身就沒有貼在肋骨上, 再多的「穩定訓練」, 都只是在錯誤位置上增加張力。 ⸻ 常見的錯誤代償模式包括: 🔘夾背時,肩胛被用力往後擠 🔘肩胛後移,但肱骨仍停留在前方 🔘肱骨前移,增加肩峰下壓迫 這時候, 棘上肌容易在肩峰下反覆受擠壓, 提高肩峰撞擊症候群的風險。 因此有些人會出現: 🔘練背卡卡 🔘練肩、練胸時肩前側疼痛 🔘長期甚至演變成棘上肌撕裂傷 ⸻ 為什麼肩胛會貼不回肋骨? 常見結構條件包括: 🔘圓肩、駝背 🔘肱骨長期前移 🔘後側胸腔空間受限 在這種狀態下, 後側空間不足, 肩胛骨自然缺乏「貼附與滑動的空間」。 ⸻ 所以介入的第一步,通常不是加強訓練量 而是先回到排列與空間。 像影片中示範的 90/90 靠牆呼吸, 目的不是訓練肌力, 而是: 🔘協助後側空間重新被打開 🔘讓肩胛骨重新貼附在肋骨上 🔘為後續的肩胛控制與背部訓練 建立比較合理的起始位置 當位置正確, 再進行背部或肩部訓練, 發力與控制才會真正改變。 ⸻ 如果你對翼狀肩胛 或「背部怎麼練都怪怪的」這類問題有興趣, 想了解在實際訓練中可以怎麼調整—— 👇 留言 「肩胛」 我整理了一些對應的動作與觀察重點。 #翼狀肩胛 #肩峰撞擊 #棘上肌夾擠 #90/90呼吸
