(And for non-specialists planning primary geography, it can be even harder to make sure you’re aligned with the national curriculum and nailing your geography curriculum!) Here’s a few ways you can use our model geography curriculum for inspiration: 🗺️ Key skills for geographers fully integrated Maps, aerial photographs and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) are a key part of the curriculum, rather than added on as an extra. Your pupils will learn how to use these tools to ask questions, investigate patterns and make sense of the world. And with clear explanations of the geographical processes they’re exploring, they’ll have a full understanding of exactly what they’re doing. 📍 Adapt to your local contexts Aerial photographs, maps and enquiry work can be swapped to reflect pupils’ own environments. So you can plan meaningful local geography and fieldwork without starting from scratch. 🌍 Specific place studies vs thematic knowledge Regional studies help pupils build secure knowledge of specific places, while thematic units focus on core concepts such as rivers, population and human–environment interaction. Your pupils will be able to make links across what they’re learning, through a curriculum that brings geography to life. 🧠 And all our content and language is kept accurate and up to date, reflecting current geographical knowledge and issues.
