3 ways to shift your energy on the court when you feel you aren’t playing your best…

First thing to remember is It’s bound to happen…
At some point, you won’t play your best… and yes, it might even happen in front of recruiters.
But rather than beating yourself up, here’s what you get to do during the tournament:
1. Feel your feelings off the court
I’m a huge believer in feeling your feelings. But if you’re not playing your best, you need to make sure those emotions don’t affect your game.
2. Practice letting it go
You don’t have to be perfect but you do need to master the art of letting things go. Welcome to being a setter at a high level: you are going to make mistakes. So get good at letting things roll off your back.
3. Focus on the next play and your teammates
When you focus on your teammates, you get out of your head. Your team needs you at your best, and being stuck in your head isn’t an option. You’re the one running the show, so be ready for the next play.
Then, off the court process everything.
Once you step off the court and return to your hotel or home, that’s your time.
It’s okay to feel sad, mad, angry, upset, or frustrated.
That space is your safe place to release and even cry if you need to.
Then shift into solution mode…
Ask yourself:
- What can I do to be better next time?
- How was my warm-up?
- How was my physical preparation?
- How was my mental preparation?
- Did something the night before affect me?
These are all things to consider.
So remember: be kind, loving, and graceful with yourself. Feel your feelings and then look at how you can improve.
