I bet most of you have NEVER thought about changing this setting in your camera.
The different metering modes help you exposure your image so you don’t end up with a dark or blown out photo. These are the most common types you’ll see:
1. Evaluative
2. Center weighted
3. Partial
4. And Spot metering
Evaluative is your general, “one size fits all” mode - it looks at the entire frame.
Center weighted ignores the edges and looks at about 60%-80% of the total frame - great for portraits.
Partial looks at a smaller area even closer to the center of the frame. About 10%-15% - great for wildlife.
Spot metering looks at the smallest area at the center of the frame. About 2%-5% - used for really small subjects.
So, don’t forget about this little setting! But tbh, I still forget about it from time to time - so no sweat if you do. 😂
