Let me clear this up… you don’t need to take photos when hiking. Your outdoor experience does not need to be documented and you can certainly enjoy nature without photographing it🌲 BUT if you do want to take hiking photos, below are my top tips. ⠀ 👇🏼TAKE BETTER HIKING PHOTOS👇🏼 ⠀ ▫️Go at sunrise or sunset. This will allow for you to experience more golden light that is dreamier for photos ⠀ ▫️Take an item of clothing that will stand out in photos, e.g. a bright jacket. Typically it’s best to avoid colors that will blend into the surroundings ⠀ ▫️Be patient. We often have to wait for the clouds to clear or for the wind to die down in order to get the kind of photos we want. Patience is KEY for outdoor photography ⠀ ▫️Hike! Many of my favorite hiking photos are of me actually walking rather than standing still and posing. This usually translates to the photo looking more natural ⠀ ▫️Use burst mode on your phone or camera. I look derpy in the vast majority of my hiking photos, but using burst mode means I have more photos to choose from and a higher chance of one turning out okay ⠀ ▫️Use a tripod. This is allow you to take photos solo, as a couple, or with friends / family. It also helps with taking photos in low light (e.g. early morning, late evening). My guide to the best travel tripods is linked in my bio ⠀ ▫️Reframe what you think of as a “good” hiking photo. Some of my favorite hiking photos are the ones where I look sweaty and totally spent. Washington is finally getting snow and it has me romanticizing being in this cozy home in Roslyn right now 🏠 🌨️ We got snowed in yesterday, no cell service, just a hot tub, warm fire, and a ski tour down to the lake since the road wasn’t plowed. 10/10 would stay at EcoCamp in Patagonia again—or forever. This was without a doubt the coolest place I have ever stayed while traveling. This lodge has been carbon neutral since 2007 and offsets everything, including staff flights, by investing in green projects around the planet. Here are some of the many things I loved about EcoCamp: 🥬 The dinners were outrageous. Always vegetarian options, and they have a greenhouse onsite growing herbs and greens. Then each morning, our pack-your-own lunch (with reusable containers) buffet was made with repurposed leftovers from the night before! 🔋 Everything is solar or hydro powered! This meant a few quick outages, but it never lasted more than a few minutes. Don’t expect to be using a hairdryer while you’re here, but charging phones is fine! 🚽 Composting toilets! No waste left behind! The way this property balances feeling fancy with being sustainable is *chefs kiss* perfection. 🌼 You’re integrated with nature. We had a fox wander by our window, found a house wren nest outside our dome, and saw so many beautiful species of plants nestled amongst the raised boardwalks (designed to help reduce human impact). 🏕 Lots of options for different budgets. There are the big dome suites, smaller individual domes, and even fully guided tours to do the popular W Trek. If you stay at @ecocamp, be sure to ask the property manager for a sustainability tour! And then send me lots and lots of pictures. 🥰
