Shoulder pain and instability is common with hypermobility. Exercise is absolutely the best long term solution and can make ALL the difference….but…..it takes some time. Building strength, stability, postural awareness, reducing sensitivity in the nervous system all takes time. Plus, if you’re hypermobile and having pain in multiple areas of your body, you may be prioritizing a different area at the moment and just need a little extra support for your shoulders. I can’t take credit for this, so big thanks to the patient with shoulder instability that showed it to me ~ 20 years ago. Tips ✅ Scarf/strap should be used to help guide the shoulder blades backwards (retract) and as a bonus the scarf will cradle the head of the humerus to prevent shoulder subluxation in the forward direction (anterior) ✅ Do NOT pull so tight that it pinches, or causes numbness/tingling/coldness in your hands. There are nerves, vascular and lymph structures in your axilla (arm pit) and you don’t want to smoosh those. ✅Use as needed but not MORE than needed. Use your muscles when you can, ✅ As you build strength and muscle tone, you won’t need this as much, even for sleeping! I promise exercise really works. ✅If you want more support AND compression, I like the Alignmed Posture shirt with the zip up front If you found this tip helpful, stay tuned for the next round of my intro to stability and pain management course for hypermobility, Ground Control. We start Monday March 24 and registration opens Monday March 17! Have you tried this trick? Was it helpful? Share in the comments! #hypermobilespectrumdisorder #EDS #hEDS #EhlersDanlossyndrome #HSD

Most people blame the rotator cuff… but the REAL key to bulletproof shoulders is your serratus. This muscle locks your shoulder blade against your ribcage so every press, lift, and throw feels powerful instead of painful. 🚫 Without it firing, you’re fighting instability, impingement, and endless ‘tightness’ no stretch can fix. ✅ With it, your shoulder moves like it’s supposed to—smooth, strong, and ready for sport. That’s why serratus wall slides with a band are a non-negotiable. They retrain your shoulder to stay stable under load while building control through full overhead motion. 👉 If you’ve been stuck in the cycle of pain, weakness, and failed rehab—this is your missing link. DM “SHOULDER” for a FREE virtual assessment and find out if serratus weakness is the root cause of your shoulder issues! #shoulderpain #shoulderworkout #shoulderstability #shoulder #workout #athlete #shoulderrehab #rotatorcuff

💥 SLAP Tear = Deep Shoulder Instability & Hidden Pain 💥 The labrum helps keep your shoulder centered and stable — but when it tears (like in a SLAP tear), things fall apart fast. Overhead pressing, rotation, or even sleeping wrong can light it up. Rest isn’t enough — you have to rebuild control. ❌ What Goes Wrong If You Ignore It: Deep shoulder pain that won’t go away Instability during pressing or rotation Weakness or hesitation under load 🔥 Why Labrum Stability Matters: 🧲 Keeps the Shoulder Centered – No more slipping or pinching in the joint 💪 Supports Pressing & Rotation Strength – Especially overhead 🚫 Reduces Risk of Re-Injury – A stable joint takes load without breaking down 🛠️ How to Fix It (Start Smart, Then Build): 🌀 Roller Walkout – Early-stage drill to retrain joint centration and safe loading 🐻 Bear Shoulder Taps – Challenge scap control + anti-rotation without flaring pain 🔤 Medball ABCs – Build fine-motor stability under light tension ⚡ Banded KB Upside Down Press – Train pressing strength + rotation control under load 💡 You can’t stretch or rest your way out of labrum instability — but you can retrain it with the right strategy. 👉 DM me “pain” and I’ll send you a free shoulder pain fix demo.

💪 Life doesn’t move in one plane — and neither should your shoulder rehab. Your shoulder is far more than a simple ball-and-socket joint. It’s a complex system — the glenohumeral joint, scapulothoracic articulation, clavicle, and thoracic spine — all working together to create strength, stability, and mobility. When one piece isn’t moving well, pain and dysfunction often follow. You’re not alone — nearly 4 million people in the U.S. seek care for shoulder pain each year (AAOS). The key to lasting recovery? Training the entire shoulder complex across multiple planes of motion. Here are some of our go-to shoulder rehab exercises that target strength, control, and mobility from every angle ⬇️ ✅ Prone Snow Angels – improves shoulder stability and scapular control ✅ Half-Kneeling Resisted Thoracic Rotation – enhances rotational mobility and shoulder mechanics ✅ Bottoms-Up KB Single-Arm Press – builds pressing strength and rotator cuff stability ✅ Resisted Row to External Rotation – reinforces scapular retraction and external rotation control ✅ Shoulder Pendulum – promotes gentle joint mobility and blood flow ✅ Press to Arm Bar with Thoracic Rotation — builds shoulder stability ✅ 3-Way Shoulder Series – strengthens rotator cuff and shoulder endurance ✅ Scap Push-Up to Low Plank Down Dog – activates serratus anterior and improves overhead mobility 👉 Shoulder pain holding you back? Shoulder feeling a bit loose? 👇 The sulcus sign is one way we assess for inferior shoulder instability — often seen in hypermobile or post-traumatic shoulder injury. Technique: With the arm relaxed, a downward pull on the humerus can reveal a visible “dip” or sulcus below the acromion 👀 🔎 A positive sign suggests laxity in the inferior GH capsule — but as always, clinical relevance and treatment pathways will be heavily determined by symptoms, function & onset mechanism Physios - Save this now for your quick fire shoulder assessment check list 🔥✅ #physiotherapy #adelaidephysiotherapists #shoulderinstability #sulcussign #clinicalassessment #physiotips #shoulderrehab

3 Tips for Healthy Shoulders ⬇️ 1️⃣ Rotate If your shoulders move like a rusty door hinge and your upper body warm-up is just flailing your arms around for 10 seconds, we need to talk. Your shoulder is supposed to rotate, so how about you train it that way? Do your rotations and strengthen all angles. 2️⃣ Use weights If you want strong, resilient shoulders, you need to load them. Your rotator cuff isn’t made of glass. Press, pull, raise - just lift something. Or keep making excuses and enjoy shoulder pain every time you reach for the top shelf, I‘m just giving you options here. 3️⃣ Hang Want to forget about all your problems for a minute and strengthen your shoulders at the same time? Hang. Just trust me on this one. Dead hangs, active hangs, one-arm hangs - every gym needs a monkey, might as well be you.
