SCIATICA SUCKS! 😩 . As many of you know I’m a chronic sufferer of pelvis pain and #sciatica due to my #hypermobility and after understanding that so many of you are too I promised to share some of the exercises I use to ease the tightness and tension. ⁉️Please please please understand that I am sharing this through my experience and yoga teacher hat on. I am not nor claiming to be a physio or specialist and as always following advice on Instagram shouldn’t come above and before following the advice from your medical practitioner . ⁉️ . Child pose : I find that child’s pose with knees together stretches my lower back moreso than legs wide. Narrow high lunge : is something @lara.heimann taught me this week and it’s spooky how well it works. Find length through spine and keep pelvis neutral. Sphinx pose: this one is great to create gentle beck extension without aggravating. I often watch TV like this. Bridge lifts : the trick is to go slow and with control to feel the release. Not to Do 100s reps or weighted this is soothing stretch to create space in the lower back. Figure 4 legs : is a stretch to target the glutes in an accessible way and really works. Cow face legs : or shoelace legs agsin targets the glutes and the outer hips instead of deeper stretch postures. Finally the magic of rest : rest is so important with sciatica I know when mine is in chronic phase I don’t sleep well at all (which leads to whole other bag of chronic pain related bits!) so either try legs up the wall for 10 mins before bed or instead of Savasana in a yoga class. And yo sleep place a pillow under the knees or between them. . Other things that help me are 🐯Tigre balm 💙Hot water bottle 🙏🏼Taking the pressure off myself 👌🏼Lying on my tummy where possible 🧠Using mindfulness - I’m trained in MBSR and it helps me stay present and listen to my body. . ☑️ Physios I love and who offer fantastic reliable advice ❤️ @laurenholt_bsc ❤️ @lara.heimann ❤️@celestpereirayoga . If you ever get Sciatica then do this for some relief 👇 Sciatica is pain and/or numbness and tingling that runs down your leg🦵🏼 This nerve pain usually comes from an issue in your lower back where the nerve is compressed or irritated 💥 Here are two quick and easy exercises to get some quick relief 👌🏼 1️⃣ Flexion Decompression: This takes pressure off the nerve root and aims to decompress the spine vertically 2️⃣ Side Bend Decompressions: Only perform this with the painful side facing up and the towel/cushion under the good side - the goal is to open and decompress the pinched/irritated side Save this post and work on these exercises 2-3x daily and see if that helps 🙏🏽

💥 STOP Stretching Your Sciatica! ❌ If you have sciatica, then you probably have that tight burning down the back of your leg But the problem is not in your leg, it stems from the low back! So the biggest mistake you can make is continually stretching the leg, hoping it gets better Because a sensitive nerve does not want to be stretched, and this can prevent you from healing! So how do you fix this without stretching with the pain is? 🔑 The key here is to address sciatica at the root, which is in the low back! The first exercise helps stretch and strengthen the piriformis muscle to reduce irritation around the nerve The second one takes pressure off of your disc and nerve to calm down the symptoms in the leg And the last one helps directly reverse the herniation and restore your mobility to take pressure off the nerve at the source These will help you reduce your pain fast, but as always, you need a long-term plan! ✅ Want to learn how to fix your back for life? Stretching your sciatica is not a good idea and can make it worse! 🔑 The key here is to understand why your leg feels tight. A compressed or sensitive nerve will create this sensation in your leg as a warning sign that there is nerve tension. A sensitive nerve does not want to be stretched! When you stretch your hamstrings you’re pulling on the nerve and possibly re-agitating, the nerve and disc over and over, preventing you from recovering or even making it worse! Instead, these exercises could address the source of the problem and as a result, the symptoms in your legs will improve!
