This could’ve been SIM swapping or spoofing, and both are scary. 📱 SIM Swapping = A hacker takes control of your actual phone number by tricking your phone company 🎭 Spoofing = A hacker fakes your phone number to make it look like a call or text is coming from you How to tell the difference: ✔️ If your phone suddenly loses service and you’re locked out of accounts → SIM Swap ✔️ If your phone still works fine, but people get weird messages from “you” → Spoofing ⚠️ Either way, the hacker can impersonate you and try to scam your friends or family. Beware of this SIM CARD SCAM Sim swap fraud is rising day by day, the benefit of mobile banking apps are enormous but fraudsters can conduct SIm swaps easily to get OTPs for transaction Recently, a businessman from Delhi lost 50 lakhs, while another individual from Kolkata suffered a loss of 72 lakhs due to this SIM card fraud. Fraudsters gather personal Aadhaar and PAN cards, then contact individuals SIM providers, claiming that their sim card is damaged, and obtain a duplicate sim. Once they acquire the duplicate SIM card, they gain access to online banking services, intercepting all OTPs.. To safeguard against such scams, consider using E-Sims, as they are significantly more challenging to swap. Stay safe and alert is the only way to beat this sim swap fraud and if you are a victim of this fraud then contact your bank and lodge a complaint with RBI
