MAA common question people often ask me is “What sewing machine would you recommend?”🪡
The reality is that there are actually a lot of amazing options on the market! However as someone who taught fashion design for 4 years and who has been sewing for over 20, I’ve used my fair share of different machines…so here are 6 machines I would *actually buy* if I was learning to sew!
Features to look out for:
- top threading bobbin
- automatic button hole
- at least 5 stitches (but no need for more than 30)
- speed control
- automatic needle threader
(If you can’t tell, I really love @janomeamerica sewing machines! I’ve been using Janome machines exclusively for at least 10 years and I personally feel that they have the best quality machines on the market)

CRContinuing on from my find of my new singer sewing machine, I’ve oiled the main bits, I’ve altered the tension and it stitches well - but I can’t make the stitches any longer and it’s a little bit noisy. But I love it and look forward to making some items on it now. Does anybody else still use their old singer treadle sewing machine ? #singersewingmachine
