SYa few things I wish someone told me before becoming a speech pathologist ↓
1. yes, technically you are “playing all day” but there is so much more that goes into it than people realize. play is incredibly strategic and intentional. you’re constantly thinking about goals and figuring out how to turn really silly moments into real progress.
2. progress can feel so so slow, and sometimes you may question absolutely everything. is what you’re doing working, or is it enough? but then suddenly it will click and it’s the best feeling ever
3. you’re often way more than just a speech pathologist. you become an emotional support for families, a source of hope, a safe place, a cheerleader and sometimes even a friend (I think some of my clients would be very upset to find out that their parents are paying me to play with them 😂)
4. you’ll learn something new every single day no matter how long you’ve been doing this. the field is constantly evolving, and every child will challenge you in a new and different way
5. your voice matters too. in a career where we help others find their voice. It’s easy to forget about our own. we advocate, speak up and make the change happen. often we are the voice. #slp #slpsofinstagram #speechpathologist
