JAI’m a big fan of Paramahansa Yogananda’s Cosmic Chants.
For the longest time, there was one I always skipped:
“Desire, My Great Enemy.”
Honestly? I like my desires. They always felt valid. Human.
Until they got me into trouble.
Thank God for pranayama!
As the fires of kundalini 🔥 moved through my life—burning away big pieces of my old reality—breath helped keep me steady… anchored in what Yogananda called the castle of peace.
Later I learned this was one of his favorite chants growing up in his guru’s ashram in Bengal.
When I first heard it last summer, I thought:
“What an odd song.”
Then I heard the final line.
Suddenly it became one of my favorites too.
✨ I sing the chant in the next reel.

Even through personal loss, he continued serving the Deity of Gopinatha with love and surrender. Bhagavad Gita: Chapter 2 Verse 23
नैनं छिन्दन्ति शस्त्राणि नैनं दहति पावकः ।
न चैनं क्लेदयन्त्यापो न शोषयति मारुतः ॥ २३ ॥
nainaṁ chindanti śastrāṇi nainaṁ dahati pāvakaḥ
na cainaṁ kledayanty āpo na śoṣayati mārutaḥ
The soul can never be cut to pieces by any weapon, nor burned by fire, nor moistened by water, nor withered by the wind.
Krishna is describing the "Non-Material" nature of consciousness. If you can't cut it, burn it, wet it, or dry it, it means the Soul is not made of "stuff."
A sword can only cut what has parts. Since the Soul is a single, indivisible unit of consciousness, there is no "seam" to cut, which gives the soul immunity to trauma (Nainaṁ chindanti). Fire needs fuel to burn; the Soul is not fuel. Water needs a surface to wet; the Soul has no surface. Wind needs mass to dry; the Soul has no mass.
We spend our lives in safety mode,trying to protect ourselves from the "elements" of life like loss, insult, sickness, and age. But Lord is saying your core, your identity is already permanently safe. People can take your material things, your hard earned money, the credit for your work, they can steal your property, your position in a company or a job which you associate with, but they can never take your identity! They can never be what you are, what you experienced in the process of your growth and therefore there is no need to worry or be hurt.
Scientists do not know how your soul was created, Nor they know if they can ever cut the individual souls from the original Supreme Soul; but, the individual souls are eternally separated parts of the Supreme Soul.
In the Varāha Purāṇa, the living entities are described as separated parts and parcels of the Supreme. They are eternally so, according to the Bhagavad-gītā also. So, even after being liberated from illusion, the living entity remains a separate identity, as is evident from the teachings of the Lord to Arjuna. Arjuna became liberated by the knowledge received from Krishna, but he never became one with Krishna.

ISWherever there is saṅkīrtana, there is the divine presence ✨
Lord Chaitanya revealed the most merciful path for this age—the chanting of the holy names of Krishna. He taught that the Lord is not separate from His name, and when devotees gather together to chant with sincerity, love, and devotion, the Lord personally manifests there.
This image beautifully captures that transcendental truth. As devotees engage in saṅkīrtana—singing, dancing, and glorifying the holy names—the atmosphere transforms into a spiritual realm. It is no longer an ordinary place; it becomes filled with divine energy, peace, and bliss. In that moment, differences fade away, hearts unite, and the soul reconnects with its eternal source.
Saṅkīrtana is not just a ritual or a musical gathering—it is a spiritual revolution of the heart. It cleanses the mind, removes negativity, and awakens pure love for Krishna. Even a single moment of sincere chanting can bring inner peace that material achievements can never provide.
Through this practice, one can experience:

🌼 A sense of belonging and spiritual connection
🌼 Awakening of love for God
The presence of the Lord in saṅkīrtana is not symbolic—it is real, living, and powerful. One just needs an open heart to feel it.

COHearing from pure Vaisnavas is so important. Rather than focusing on rock concerts or modern style rap bhajans, if we surrender our ears to pure devotees chanting Holy Name with full surrender, then the effect would be — bhidyate hridaya granthis chidyante sarva samsayah. All our anarthas shall be smashed down and we shall experience bliss in pure devotional service.

The reason why I always— well not me, but Srila Prabhupada and other venerable Vaisnavas emphasize on the Vedic way of life in preaching Krsna consciousness can be delineated in the following letters excerpts (I have not given my personal opinions):
"People should not misunderstand that we are a band of musical artists. They must know that we are devotees of Krishna. Our devotional practice and purity shall be so strong that wherever we chant there will be immediately an impression in the audience for devotion to Krishna."

I wrote Prabhupada a letter saying, "Rock stars influence young people. They can change what people think. What if we start a rock band, try to become famous, and then preach?".
